Any chance Rosello appoints someone (say a nice Republican untainted by this scandal maybe) as Sec of State to succeed to the Governorship instead?
The Attorney General (”Secretary of Justice” is a literal, but not necessarily correct, translation) doesn’t want the job for obvious reasons; she’s just a prosecutor without the relevant experience (or interest) to be governor, many of the louder rabblerousers who protested against Gov. Ricky Rosselló (i.e., the Leftists who saw the protests as a chance to spout their nonsense) will demand that she step down as soon as she takes office, there are reports of wrongdoing (or at least lack of diligence) in the execution of her duties (which could be sufficient excuse to get the media to back calls for her resignation, she appears to be closely linked to Elías Sánchez, Ricky’s campaign manager and most trusted advisor who reportedly has made millions in government contracts and selling influence and who was one of the participants in the infamous Telegram chat (if that story takes off it definitely will lead to protests seeking her resignation), and being governor right now would be a thankless job unless you have full support from the legislature and will seek reelection. If Wanda Vázquez wasn’t next in the line of succession, literally no one would think of her as a good choice for the governorship.
Given that both Senate President Thomas Rivera Schatz (TRS) and Resident Commissioner Jenniffer (not a typo) González both want to run for governor in 2020 (and have large followings in the pro-statehood NPP—both are Republicans, BTW, with Jenniffer being a National Committeewoman), the ideal scenario would have been to name as Secretary of State (and thus governor as of 5:00 p.m. on Frida) a gubernatorial placeholder who vows not to seek reelection (and who wouldn’t be a strong candidate even if he changed his mind). However, no one has been identified that would be mutually acceptable to Ricky (who must appoint the Secretary of State), TSR (the appointment must be confirmed by both the House and Senate) and Jenniffer (who was in the House leadership and exerts a lot of influence with its members). Rumor is that TSR is insisting that he be named the Secretary of State and thus governor, and a lot of groups and individuals have endorsed him (most recently the policemen’s union), but that Ricky fears that TSR will prosecute him if he becomes governor. So it’s a real flustercluck. I hope that someone is appiinted and confirmed before 5:00 p.m. Friday, but I’m not very optimistic right now.
Excellent analysis. I wouldn’t put it past the governor to start a creeping delay of his resignation if not walking it back altogether.

Reports I have heard are that Congress voted $49billion for PR, PR has actually only gotten around $13billion, and no one knows where this $90billion figure has come from other that someone’s imagination.
