ANCHORAGE (Reuters) - A Belarusian woman who was trying to hike to an abandoned bus at the edge of Denali National Park in Alaska made famous in the book and movie Into the Wild died after being swept away in a river, state troopers said on Friday.
Veramika Maikamava, 24, was pulled underwater when she tried to cross the Teklanika River with her husband Piotr Markielau, also 24, in their journey to the site where hiker Christopher McCandless perished in 1992, the troopers said.

Nature will try very, very hard to kill you. And it succeeds quite often.

My idea of roughing it is 4 star instead of 5 star hotels :)
The closest I get to nature is passing the tree on the way to my car.
Why?
What mistake did Krakauer make???
Jom Krakauer wrote “Into the Wild”...
He also wrote “Into Thin Air” about an Everest expedition gone bad...
Keith Richards outlives another young healthy person.

Mrs. L and I used to tent camp. But our days of sleeping on the ground are looooong over. Now camping means we rent an RV with AC, a flush toilet, and a shower. Lately weve been getting cabins at State Parks. Same deal. We can enjoy nature, fish for a while, and then repair to four walls and a well made cocktail or cold beer.
Just because we camp doesnt mean we are barbarians.

LOL
That sounds nicer than the hotels! :)
I got dragged in a river too.
My backpack was too bulky, and the current grabbed it and pulled me towards a large fallen tree under the water, which was kinda scary.
My walking stick saved me as I was able to jam it down into the river bed several times and pull myself out of the current like that.
Risky as Hell, and I was alone too. Moving water is dangerous.

Dont get me wrong. We are always up for a couple of nights where the staff is highly trained in the art of *** kissing. But we do enjoy a quiet night or two under the starts just enjoying each others company. The fact that we still do after 23 years is reason enough for celebration. LOL.

To see how a reckless idiot died.
Whoops
Did she remember to donate her inheritance to charity first?
My bad. Early in the morning.
Seems like there would be easier and less expensive ways to die in a picturesque manner.
Yes, I think you nailed it.
And,Under The Banner of Heaven. Most shocking.
I remember taking a tour of Denali on an old school bus. It broke down as we crested a small hill. We sat and watched several grizzly bears in our vicinity while the driver got the engine started again. Interesting experience!
Same here in regard to hotels. Roughing it is no complimentary robe.
