[full title]DOJs Russia probe review focusing on 'smoking gun' tapes of meeting with Trump aide: sources The Justice Departments internal review of the Russia investigation is zeroing in on transcripts of recordings made by at least one government source who met with former Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos overseas in 2016, specifically looking at why certain "exculpatory" material from them was not presented in subsequent applications for surveillance warrants, according to two sources familiar with the review.
The sources also said the review is taking a closer look at the actual start date of the original FBI investigation into potential collusion between members of the Trump campaign and the Russians, as some allege the probe began earlier than thought. Both components are considered key in the review currently being led by Attorney General Bill Barr and U.S. Attorney from Connecticut John Durham -- an effort sure to draw more attention in the coming weeks and months now that Robert Mueller's testimony is in the rearview.

But Papadopoulos did not only meet with Mifsud and Downer while overseas. He met with Cambridge professor and longtime FBI informant Stefan Halper and his female associate, who went under the alias Azra Turk.
Nothing like being the audio engineer and their tradecraft.
lets not set the bar super high....if we do we will look like CNN 2 years ago..if it is a “dud”
But interesting news
George Papadop predicted there must be recordings by the John Brennan setup team when he spoke to these people. He said it was obvious they were trying to record him. He had no idea then why.
He’s been saying for some months the tapes must be obtained. Now the news it’s happened.
It’s very, very big news!
Exculpatory evidence excluded? Where is Weismann, that appears to be his purview
I agree...what I do find interesting is that this is a Fox news story. If this were NY Slimes or Washington Compost, then I would be skeptical.
Why should anyone care? Papadopoulos was an extremely low level campaign worker in a campaign organization of several thousand people.
“...looking at why certain “exculpatory” material from them was not presented in subsequent applications for surveillance warrants,....”
I think we all know “why.” They had a political agenda and an election to overthrown.
They wanted to tarnish him by portraying him as a Russian operative. This would give them the legal standing to get what they REALLY wanted: a FISA warrant to conduct surveillance against everyone in the Trump campaign who had any contact with him.
WHO TAPED ALLL THESE??
Are you SERIOUS??? He was set up and has to PAY TENS of THOUSANDS of DOLLARS for LAWYERS! Would you want that to happen to YOU?
The USA or one of our Five Eye partners in spying.
The books are cooked, the fix is in, the entire DC government is suspect. /#sad_but_true
The intelligence agencies that were trying to set him up.
Leaks are made to lesson the impact of the report. Or in this case could be to calm the “where is the darn report” drum beat. Recall Sessions appointing Huber once the heat got turned up on him.
I was trying to find out what the specific “lie” that Papadopolous pleaded guilty to, was. Well, the reason I couldn’t find it out was because, he was never told what the lie was. The Mueller team indictment is online, and NOWHERE does it state what the specific lie was! Plus it contains overkill, like George obstructed and hampered the investigation. B.S. He told them about George Mifsud, and didn’t seem to care. (suspicious?)
Its very, very big news!
After reading the article it’s pretty clear this news is intended to be some red meat for Trump supporters. Everybody is a about to go on vacation in DC except for POTUS. Barr’s team is trying to put a positive spin on their “investigation” before they all bug out of town.
I wonder WHO HIRED GEORGE PAPPADOPOLIS!!! WHO?? anyone know?
Yeah Lodi, one can read into this as they wish but George Papadop referenced the recordings, Trey Gowdy did back in May and said it could be a “gamechanger” and now we hear they’ve obtained the transcripts.
In addition, “the review is taking a closer look at the actual start date of the original FBI investigation into potential collusion.”
That signals they know this FBI Crossfire Hurricane investigation didn’t start the process in late July 2016.
It’s actually big on two fronts so yes, major news before the August recess.
Craig Livingstone.....lol
Its actually big on two fronts so yes, major news before the August recess.
To me the big story here is DNI Coats trying to hide the fact that one political party was using USG intel to spy on the opposition party during a Presidential campaign. If we still lived in a constitutional republic his behind would be hauled before Congress. Then he could explain under bright TV lights to the American people why he feels that way. Instead, since Coats is playing for Team Deep State he will get a free pass.
