[full title] Equifax owes you a lot more, but heres how to get $125 from this weeks settlement
The US credit reporting agency Equifax settled earlier this week with the Federal Trade Commission over the massive 2017 data breach that exposed hundreds of millions of Americans Social Security numbers and other sensitive data. Now, you can finally file a claim to collect on the $700 million settlement, which contains a $380,500,000 consumer restitution fund, as part of the class action lawsuit.
The FTC this morning posted the claim website, where you can both check if you were affected by the companys breach and fill out the relatively simple form that lets you specify to which claims you feel entitled. Thankfully, it is not operated by Equifax...

So you don’t have to click an article if you don’t want to
“This week’s Chevy Avalanche juice was brought to you by Equifax.”

Remember the tobacco settlement, all those poor coughing victims?
California’s share of the loot went to SIDEWALK REPAIR.
How many times have you seen a sidewalk smoking a cigarette..?
More and more we’re seeing this nice-sounding, “make the victim WHOLE” hijacked by Da greedy Gummint.
I want what the lawyers get.

You really can’t get anything.
Unless you agree under penalty of perjury that you’ve already got at least 6 months of Credit Monitoring, you can’t get the $125.
It’s free credit monitoring or $125.
It’s BS if you ask me.
I am always skeptical when states sue to get settlements for consumers and victims, because at best they don’t distribute it well (they’re a f’n bureaucracy for pete’s sake) and at worst they just use it for whatever their grubby hands use any of the money they get, which is, whatever the hell they want to use it for that has very little genuine ROI for the people it was meant for
On the flip side, companies like Equifax should be punished for their negligence, so I’m not against them getting sued at all.
Thanks, I was affected. I choose the cash payment yeah!
What if I just want the settlement, and don’t click on any of the four choices? I don’t want free credit monitoring, I didn’t spend any time on this, I did not lose or spend any money and I have no supporting documents. Yet the think says that I was affected.

Thank you, ptsal!
Thanks, ptsal!
Agree 101%, I think EquiFax should get the living sh*t sued out of them.
And if a person or entity really IS a victim, they’re entitled to be made whole.
I just don’t trust Da Gummint to make sure it happens.
Agreed. Why should I agree to the monitoring? What if I monitor my own credit?
According to the site you can only get (a measly) $125 if you already have credit protection. This is a scam....

Me too! Cash.

I didn’t like how the ftc site went off to a 3rd party “lookup tool” site to gather your information. So, I didn’t even use it.
I’m going to find out more about this equifaxbreachsettlement.com before I do it.
Not worth $125 cash to me to have my personal data sold to spammers and who knows who else.
