Several rank-and-file Democrats in the House are feeling deflated over former special counsel Robert Mueller's public testimony, with some blaming the media and their own party for overhyping hearings they say fell short of expectations.
While many Democrats publicly heralded Mueller’s testimony before the House Judiciary and Intelligence committees as a resounding success, some privately expressed disappointment in his, at times, shaky performance, the brevity of his answers and the lack of a big moment that would have shifted the electorate's sentiment on whether President Trump was guilty of obstruction.

I didn’t pay much attention, but I read a very small article that said CNN had the lowest viewership ratings for the Mueller hearings.

Multiple members argued that the media was complicit in pumping up Mueller’s appearance by drawing comparisons to the Watergate hearings during the Nixon administration, writing stories about bar specials and watch parties and generally forecasting Mueller’s testimony as the most historic Capitol Hill event in years, if not decades.
“I think that the media hyped the hearing to a point where it was very hard to meet the expectation,” said Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.), an Intelligence Committee member. “I remember getting ready yesterday morning listening to the coverage and thinking, 'My gosh, they’re making this into Watergate II.'”

f you only watched CNN or MSNBC the past 2.5 years you would expect Mueller to testify that Trump and Putin met secrectly multiple times in the summer of 2016 to coordinate efforts to defeat Clinton....
Instead you got a bumbling old man that didn’t know what was in his report about how Trump thought about “obstructing” an investigation that was never obstructed about a conspiracy that never existed
I’ll bet if we could subpoena DC democrats bar tabs from last night they would show an unmistakable trend.

I can say all that because I spent 6 and a 1/2 years taking care of someone who went in-and-out of dementia
It is heart wrenching to watch somebody while you’re talking them be complete and whole in control of their faculties and in another moment very unsure of what their mind is not allow in them to do

What did they expect?
They knew that there was no basis for the “investigation” from the get-go; did they really expect that Mueller was going to magically produce evidence of a crime when everyone knows that Trump is innocent?
They set themselves up.
If we only had a majority of rational people in this country, Democrats would never be elected again to any office.
Three years of screaming 'TRUMP COLLUDED WITH RUSSIA' ending in a report that said he didn't and no charges filed has a way of turning people off.
Which is why Democrats held the hearing. They needed a Hail Mary to keep the accusations alive and Mueller fumbled their pass.
Democrats aren't going to give up this line of attack. They still believe they will find a smoking gun they can use to take Trump out.
The Republicans should hold a big “Thank You Party” for Nadler and Schiffty for making Mueller testify.
The ones that only feel deflated are the lucky ones. I’m sure some, perhaps Mueller himself, are feeling really scared now.
