National Education Associationheld its annual convention in Houston the beginning of July. Attended by thousands of delegates on behalf of teachers and educators across the country, the meeting includes a Representative Assembly where resolutions and new business items are proposed and voted on.
This year, 6,000 NEA delegates (a low attendance compared to previous years) approved teaching the concept of White Fragility in trainings and staff development, endorsed the fundamental right to abortion under Roe v. Wade, and called on the U.S. government to accept responsibility for the destabilization of Central American countries and that this destabilization is a root cause of the recent increase of asylum seekers in the United States, to name a few.
But a proposal focused on, wait for it, student learning, was defeated.
New Business Item 2 proposed the NEA should re-dedicate itself to the pursuit of increased student learning in every public school in America by putting a renewed emphasis on quality education.

It means the Liberals are STILL whistling past the grave yard
And no doubt a majority of dues-paying members don’t know that.
I guess that explains my racism.
The older I get, the more fragile
I get, thus the whiter I get.
I work at a univ. and last year I cut and pasted the SCUS opinion, allowing me to opt out of our bogus union, and sent it to our HR and the attorneys here.
It was like getting a raise!! :)
They also use the term emotional labor. How dare you oppress me by making me berate you. You should just cave and grovel when I smear you with an insult.
The “white tears” insult is equally viscous. How dare you cry and act sad/upset while I berate you and hate on you! You might make me feel guilty for abusing you! It carries an implicit bigotry, that you’re so low you should just shut up and passively take the abuse your moral superiors heap on you.

What’s funny is that if a white person feels comfortable in this country despite race issues, that is white privilege. If you don’t, that is white fragility. So you’re either guilty of one or another.
I can guarantee that. My wife taught at a small rural school. Most of the members joined for the legal support. As a group they were as conservative, white and religious as the community they taught in. As a group the NEA leadership and meeting attendees were POC, female, ultra liberal and urban.
One of the reason for the dropping membership is that republican state government started to offer legal protection to teachers through the state DOEs thus removing their reason for paying the union dues for that protection.
Many of those in the educational field are liberals. It is entirely possible, through the forced attendance of mandated "white toxicity" workshops such as were forced on teachers by the commie Mexican schools chancellor here in NYC, that these white teachers, of both genders, were imbued with a sense of guilt for all the imagined advantages they had based on their skin color.
A retired teacher, I never burdened myself with nonsense like that. I got what I got and where I got through hard work and diligence on my own--no one gave me a darn thing. And only the very young teachers, fresh from their libtard-taught college classes sporting the latest commie slogans and ideas, might have harbored any of this nonsense "white guilt". "White guilt" simply was a topic which NEVER came up in the teachers lounge, from anyone of any race.
So I totally disagree with your statement "teachers have a lot of white guilt". If you turned in a term paper to me with a generalized statement like that, I would have given it straight back to you and demanded specific examples and citations for what you claim.
If the world, according to you, would be a "whole lot better without their ignorance", who do you propose to have as teachers in the schools? Surely not YOU, obviously the most ignorant of all...
They have done everything they could think of and failed to raise the academic performance of blacks. The only thing left they can do to close the gap is to reduce the performance of whites by shaming, ridicule, guilt and questionable teaching practices.
How bout we teach the kids reading, writing and arithmetic first.

That’s too dangerous. If they can read, think, and reason, they won’t vote for Democrats when they come of age.
People will jettison themselves from schools. Including leaving the US out of self-protection and ambition for their children.
There's the hook. Or joined for insurance. Good news is that before you had to be a union member. Not any more. But "being conservative" aka "being free" means to say no to the sugar.
true
They would be better off teaching White Invincibility so kids can have role models, again. :)
Uh... speaking only for myself, I am very motivated by the fear that Critical Race Theory is merely the vehicle to implement the eradication of the United States as we know it, and ethnic cleansing of whites. Yes, I do think that's what a lot of them want: white people extinct. Gone the way of the Neanderthal.
So the NEA supports aborting their future students. Everything about public schools makes sense now.
Anything to reduce class size.
“How bout we teach the kids reading, writing and arithmetic first.”
They can’t teach what they don’t know!;)
I think it might be what they call it when people inconveniently fight back against the narrative.
My feeling is that some sort of consensus was reached about white people where none were welcome, and now in the age of the internet there is hell to pay if the leaders in these echo chambers are found to have been wrong or worse, to have cynically profited from lying to people and keeping them in a constant state of fear and resentment.
