As a guy who's of proud Irish blood I'm astounded that the Irish are unwilling to be ruled from London (perhaps understandably so) but have no problem whatsoever being ruled from Berlin (the *real* "seat" of the EU).

The Irish national identity basically revolves around being anti British. Prior to the EU Ireland was totally dependent on the UK efonomically and even pegged their currency to the pound at par. They are pro EU because Britain is anti it, and view the EU as a bulwark against British influence, they are perversely proud of this reliance on the EU, they simply don’t have the imagination or balls to see themselves as a truly independent nation. Sad.

You do realize that the Irish aren't "ruled" from Brussels - as was clear during the negotiations when the other EU countries subordinated their needs to stand behind Ireland.
