Here’s something I hope doesn’t become the beginning of a disturbing trend. In a suburb of Nashville, Tennessee, an ICE agent arrived at the home of an illegal alien to make an arrest. The suspect was sitting in his van with son and the officer blocked them off from escaping with his own vehicle. What should have been a fairly routine detention then took a turn for the weird. Neighbors began showing up, delivery food, water and gasoline to the suspect, eventually forming a human chain to block the ICE agent while the man ran back into his house. (The Hill)
A group of neighbors in Hermitage, Tenn., formed a human chain Monday morning to prevent an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent from trying to bring a man into custody.
News Channel 5 Nashville reported that an ICE vehicle had blocked the man, who was inside his van with his son, from leaving his driveway.
Over the course of the morning, neighbors brought the man water, gas and wet rags to allow him to remain in the van, according to the outlet. After about four hours, the group formed a human chain to allow the two to run from the vehicle and enter their house.
By the time all of this was over, local police were on the scene as well, but they didn’t step in on either side of the standoff. They were only there to keep order, not to assist with immigration enforcement activities. (See: sanctuary policies.)
The problem for the ICE agent was that he had an administrative warrant. This authorized him to detain the suspect, but not to forcibly remove him from his home or vehicle. Once the illegal alien left the vehicle to head for the house the agent could have arrested him had he not been blocked by the human chain of neighbors.
First of all, this type of obstruction is illegal and it has nothing to do with immigration law. In Tennessee, Prevention or Obstruction of Legal Writ or Process is a Class A misdemeanor. Depending on the circumstances, additional charges may be brought that are felonies. The ICE agent was following the law by refraining from attempting to remove the man from his vehicle. But as soon as the neighbors moved to block to officer from reaching the illegal alien, they were in violation of the law.
If this town has sanctuary policies in place forbidding the local police from assisting ICE, that’s one thing. But that doesn’t mean that they can blithely stand by and watch a crime being committed just because it proves to be an inconvenience to immigration enforcement. The neighbors were breaking the law, but the local police were negligent as well. This establishes a very damaging precedent and they should all be held to account or we’re going to be seeing this all over the country.
I know better than to make general assumptions about people....but i finished my tour in the Sub Force in 1991....and every creep, weirdo that got kicked off the boat for mental issues....were from Oregon......I knew something was up back then.....But i am sure there are level headed people from there..I Just didn’t run across them. It made an impression on me my whole life....I wasn’t far off from the mark.
Pepper spray or whatever it takes.
i dont know the illegal or the situation but
criminal conduct should usually lead to citations or arrests
what gives here/?
These people should have been arrested!
...a Cold War version of CWII...
And something is going to happen to make it hot at some point. Heres the problem, about half the people think close to those commenting on this page. And about half believe that the illegal aliens are better Americans than you and me. (Their view of what makes up a good American is 180 degrees out of sync from what you and I think a good American is, and their view, like yours and mine, cannot ever change, both sides views are set in cement).
This will not stand as it is today for a very long time. And ICE, or the police, or the military, or Trump or we should do X,Y or Z will not change it...and you cant do X,Y or Z anyway without setting off the conflagration.
We are set hard in absolutely nothing but the most minor things can be moved one way or the other. Any further either way blows it up and no one can control what happens then. In the meantime they practice lawfare to try to get an advantage over the other politically...hoping the next election will make them stronger. It wont. It has to, at some point soon, all come crashing down. And we will be lucky to live through it (as someone once said).
Got to watch the Newark PD round up a bunch of striking city employees. They surrounded the group with the “tactical Squad” in helmets and carrying riot sticks. It began raining wood and then they got tossed into the Paddy wagons strategically located to haul them off. That was around 1970. I almost got scooped up too but one of the intel detectives “not him, he is one of the good guys”.
77th? Is that around Bed Sty??
Seems like we're almost there anyway.
That’s a classic case of ‘obstruction of justice’.
Let these jerks lose their jobs and health care to illegal aliens.
Is Nashville already this far gone???
I agree with almost everything you said. The only thing I see differently is that contrary to the narrative that the media tries to create, a large majority of Americans are in favor of securing the border and stopping the out of control situation we have currently. Of course, on the other hand the side that is in favor of open borders is growing rapidly as more people flood across and join their ranks.
Break out the night sticks!
Cops were called......so what the hell did they do when they got there???
I count this as an anomaly, but that’s what the news likes to report . . . like we are all wannabe haters and queers.
Yes, God help us. If laws are only to arrest conservatives not of color then are set aside for leftists, Antifa and persons of color, then how long can this go on?
Two tiered "justice."
In 2021 a Dem government will confiscate all citizens weapons and track by Google, Facebook and the internet all actions by all conservatives. Everything traced (DMV,emails, medical records, political leanings, voting....)
No cash allowed--can't abruptly stop a person from using cash like they soon will with a credit and debit card. Any person on the right is an outlaw at that point. No money to pay rent, mortgage, car payments or buy food and water.
Important: in all revolutions and unrest (Venezuela,Iran soon,Bolsheviks in 1917) the key question is always for law enforcement and the military:
Whose side are you on?
...large majority of Americans are in favor of securing the border and stopping the out of control situation we have currently.
This is a polling statistic that is often used...and I discount it greatly. Why? Because even if a large majority agree with securing the border, it is absolutely evident that that majority DOES NOT vote for candidates that agree with securing the border. The House of Representatives now has solid and large majority of members who are against securing the border. The Senate has a large bipartisan majority that is opposed to securing borders. Since Trump was elected, open borders majorities in Congress have GROWN.
So even though voters say they are against open borders, they do not vote that way...they have been and are voting the opposite. This is why I discount that polling. It may be true in the abstract but in concrete action it is not true.
Some of this might be due to the systemic failure - which is very advanced - of out political and governmental system in whole...but it is still there staring us in the face.
I think it was in the ‘80s that Pro-lifers tried and failed to block abortion clinics with sheer numbers. The police would come and arrest them by the 1,000s. We lost that war.
You are correct about that, and the biggest problem is the Republicans who join dems in opposing border security. But I do believe the polling in this case; I think most people get it and are not in favor of open borders.
The reason, in my opinion, that there is a disconnect between polling and voting on this issue is that as most of us know, we are frequently presented with candidates for both parties that have little daylight between them on this issue (or who hide their true position). However, usually the Republican candidate better fits our values and opinions overall, so we vote for them. Were certainly not going to vote for the dem, and a third-party vote accomplishes nothing.
I think its that forced choice that often causes people to vote for candidates who hold contrary views on illegal immigration.
I suspect it will go hot similar to the “shot heard round the world”.
