South Korean air force jets fired 360 rounds of warning shots Tuesday in response to “multiple” Russian military planes that entered into the South's airspace, officials said.
Seoul officials said three Russian military planes – two Tu-84 bombers and one A-50 airborne early warning and control aircraft – entered the South’s air defense identification zone off its east coast before the A-50 intruded in South Korean airspace.
An unspecified number of South Korean fighter jets, including F-16s, scrambled to the area and fired 10 flares and 80 rounds from machine guns as warning shots.

Like Alaska, this looks to me like someone is testing responses, reaction times, and basically overall defensive readiness.

These stories are so common, I always get a kick out of the overly-excited responses people give to it.
Yea really, this was extremely common during the height of the Cold War. At least, poking around each other’s airspace. Not sure about flares and such.
Why not just shoot them down?
It was a Russian TU-95, but 11 feet shorter.

JUST REMEMBER THIS: No matter how HORRIFYINGLY PAINFULLY TRAGICALLY AWFUL it really is, it is a MILLION times worse. Then things get *really* tough. After that, HORRIBLE things happen, and then we REALLY get screwed. Immediately following that, the BOTTOM drops out and we are all DEAD, and THEN things get HARD! Once that happens, it signifies the TOTAL collapse of EVERYTHING, and that's when the CATASTROPHE starts! It's the sign of the end of EVERYTHING, but after that, comes the TRAGEDY. Then times get DIFFICULT, and things get WORSE, until it's EXCRUCIATING, but that's just the beginning, because after that it's all PAIN.
