That is simply bullcrap. If we had invented or decided upon some other symbols for numeric operations, it would not affect things one bit.

Also we should be glad for the wholesale destruction of a prosperous North Africa which is why we have all those lovely world heritage sites to see since there were no survivors to reuse the materials to build new stuff!
And let us not forget that they looted, pillaged, slaved raped and otherwise disrupted commerce, agriculture and society for hundreds and hundreds of years as they marched their way across the ancient world ... why what would we have EVER DONE had they not taken all the smart people they could find and relocated them to Baghdad for their little golden age? It would have really been a hassle to have those folks back home doing things to make their homes better!
Hey, come to think of it Islam’s main contribution to the world, other than seeing its every adherent perish eternally for rejecting Christ, is to make. The world suck worse than it needed to have.

I might add that the longer muzzards have ruled a place the more screwed up it is. Look at the political landscape of the Balkans as an example.
We need to embark on a new policy concerning Islam. We can call it the Barbary Pirate Policy. Not much has changed since the days of Stephen Decatur, witness Iran’s recent act of piracy in seizing a British flagged bulk carrier. President Thomas Jefferson had the right idea.
