PORTLAND, Ore. Joe Fontenot walked away from his comedy show Saturday night with a black eye.
The Portland comedian said he was performing at a venue in Hood River when he was attacked. He said he usually stays away from religion and politics during his act, but he took a chance that night.
Fontenot said he was making fun of President Donald Trump's infamous statement about creating a Space Force when a man in the audience stood up and shouted, "Make America great again!" then walked on stage.
"I just said, 'Someone should build a wall around you,' and the next thing you know, boom," described Fontenot.
He said he blacked out after the man punched him because the next thing he remembers, he could barely able open his eye.
Fortenot said he thought his joke was harmless.
"I don't understand, like, it's not even a joke about Trump or anything like that, for people to assault someone else for talking is insane," said Fortenot. "Did that make America great again?"
He said in the 22 years in the business, this has never happened before. However, he said the incident isn't going to stop him from doing what he loves most: telling jokes.
"It's never going to stop me, absolutely not. I plan on telling the joke again next week," said Fortenot.
KATU reached out to Hood River Police for comment but did not immediately hear back.
Fontenot's next show is this weekend in the Tri-Cities.
Surveillance video of the attack is expected to be be released Monday.
Tough $hit!
Yep. Portland jokes don't appear to work in Hood River. People who live in a liberal echo chamber can't imagine anyone having a different outlook.
Still, people don't just walk up on a stage and punch someone without some fallout. I'll wait for the rest of the story.
One dollar down on it didn’t happen.
IIRC, we’ve actually had a Space Force for many years.
It's where got the photo from.
Glad I was able to post his photo before the article was scrubbed.
Here is the original link that no longer works:
Comedian says he was punched in the face for making Trump-related joke
Always a hoax. I’d like a link to one of these things that wasn’t a hoax so I can have my exception that proves the rule.
Down payment on the Antifa payback
A black eye is a small price to pay for a no name comedian to get national exposure.
Hood River, not Portland.
Here's the story from a different source:
Oregon comedian says a Trump supporter punched him in the face for mocking the president
no-one had a cell-phone ?
>>>”I just said, ‘Someone should build a wall around you,’ and the next thing you know, boom,” described Fontenot.<<<
I thought it was because of the Space Force Joke.
Was that supposed to be a Joke too? I guess it wasn’t taken that way.
Odd. Wouldn't put it past the Marxists to fake this for propaganda purposes.
In Portland? False flag. Was probably some Antifa lunatic trying to make Trump people look unstable and violent.
I don’t believe a word of it.
I’m calling bs on this one

A television station in Oregon pulled a story about a comedian who says he was punched in the face over the weekend by an audience member after telling a joke mocking President Trump.
Local news outlet KATU 2 decided to remove the story Monday after the comedian in question, Joe Fontenot, had not yet provided surveillance footage of the incident that he says exists.
Additionally, Fontenot did not file a police report or identify the specific venue where the incident occurred, according to the news outlet.
He said the incident occurred during his Saturday night stand-up set that took place in Hood River, a town roughly 60 miles east of Portland.
The news story was published Monday morning and taken down by Monday afternoon. The tweet promoting the story from the news outlet’s account was still posted as of Monday afternoon.
