Democrat presidential candidate Bernie Sanders announced this weekend he will cut staffers' hours so that they can effectively be paid a $15-an-hour minimum wage, prompting mockery from critics who say the move is more evidence that Sanders' plan to raise the national minimum wage is hypocritical and would only lead to less work and more unemployment.
The Washington Post first reported last Thursday that Sanders' field staffers were upset that Sanders championed a $15 minimum wage on the campaign trail, and made headlines for railing against major corporations who pay "starvation wages" -- even as his own employees made "poverty wages."
In response, Sanders told The Des Moines Register he was "very proud" to lead the first major presidential campaign with unionized workers, but also "bothered" that news of the internal strife had spilled into the media.
The self-described socialist candidate said junior field organizers earn roughly $36,000 per year in salary, with employer-paid health care and sick leave. But he acknowledged that their salary can effectively dip below $15 per hour if staffers work much more than 40 hours per week, which is common on presidential campaigns.
The solution is to "limit the number of hours staffers work to 42 or 43 each week to ensure theyre making the equivalent of $15 an hour," he told the Register's Brianne Pfannenstiel.

In the end they still make the same amount of money, but can at least feel good about making $15/hr.
the corrupt liberal MSM definitely want crazy bernie out, they learned their lesson from ‘16.
Amazing that he would be dense enough to illustrate the primary flaw inherent in giving unskilled workers $15/hour: fewer hours of work and fewer employees. And in many cases, replacement by automation as is now happening.
Do as I say, not as I do. No thanks.
He should sell his 3 houses and donate proceeds to the gubmint.
Think of the guy who’s been crashing on your sofa and playing video games and drinking your beer all this time, suddenly becoming Mayor of your city. That’s basically who Sanders is. He has never held a real job until the age of 40 when he became Mayor of Burlington.
Crazy Bernie is essentially a...lunatic
Seems like he could just sell one of his houses. It’s not like a person NEEDS more than one house in his socialist world
Feel the Bern?
Sanders caves by cutting his staff numbers?
Rut-roh! No campaign for the long haul, as
our resident socialist hides his millions , and enjoys three homes, omne , a mansion overlooking Lake Champlain in Vermont.
Bern is toast for saying: “ Let them eat cake!”
Feel and SMELL the Bern toast!
Bernie needs to GTFO of this country!
Trying to see how "junior field organizers" qualify as one of the categories exempt from overtime laws. The closest would be Administrative Employees, but a junior field organizer is unlikely to meet 541.200(3) "Whose primary duty includes the exercise of discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance."
Sorry, Bernie, it seems to me that you owe $22.50 per hour once your junior field organizers hit 40 hours.

Yes, but he’s no more a lunatic then Howard Dean, or Princess Grey Beaver, or Hillary Clinton, or Cory Booker, or the members of The Squad, or any of dozens of other marginally-stable psychopathic personalities that the Democrat party makes stars out of.
Bernie has fallen to 12% support in the presidential sweepstakes, not even high enough to be worth attacking as a racist by his opponents.
He would be doing the Democratic party a great favor by dropping out of the race so it would no longer have an actual card-carrying Socialist prominently in its midst, but that’s not likely to happen. As long as Bernie continues to receive campaign donations which he can use to save up for his fourth million-dollar mansion, he’s likely to continue on the campaign trail.
The irony is that Bernie is calling for mediocrity in his ranks by having them only work hard enough to warrant a paycheck. Exactly the result we deplorables have said for decades would happen under socialism.
Word will get around the ranks that if you want a good recommendation out of Bernie you’re going to have to work the same hours even if you’re not paid for it. At that point Bernie will have transitioned from socialist to capitalist to being just like very other arsehole boss.

Yup. His staffers are surely feeling the burn.
When you gaze back to 2016, Bernie benefited from the fact that you had Hillary and two no-name characters...and university kids were hyped-up on socialism. Four years have passed, you have 20-odd folks on the list, and the socialism thrill has lessened.
I believe that Bernie will only last through the first six primary states...giving up early on.
Dang, when I was in college (1980’s), you had to be pretty high up in the campaign to get paid at all.
