First the figure is NOT 6”2”, Second the “negative”image of the face has been distorted to the naked eye do to whatever process took place to create it.

Artists (3 in particular)have spent hundreds of hours creating what the actual face that created the image would likely look like and none bear much resemblance to the “negative image”

The Church has long held that the Shroud is an aid to devout veneration, in bringing Our Crucified Lord graphically to our minds --- whether it is an authentic relic or an artist's depiction.

I stand by this point of view. In the Fall of 1933 the Shroud was publicly displayed in the Cathedral of Turin. One of the people who saw it was Hans Scholl, a 15-year-old German vacationing in Italy. His bio says that Scholl was deeply moved by this "real icon" of Christ and the evidence of His grievous death for the salvation of the world.

School returned to Germany, quit the Hitler Youth to which head briefly belonged, and within 10 years died a martyr's death as the leader of the anti-Hitler Resistance. He was beheaded in Munich's Stedelheim Prison in 1943.

I don't say the Shroud "caused" his heroism. The enlightenment of souls in a mystery in the hands of God. But I would say that anything God uses that stirs the heart, strengthens the Faith, and turns a person away from the path of death, is--- well, a good thing. A very good thing.

But a 6’2” Nordic guy in Judea during the Crusades around 1100 might not be far off. Most if the Cusaders were from France and many were Norman stock.

Well the face on the Shroud looks very Jewish to me. Not a white guy?
He was a Jew what would expect him to be? All the Jews I know look very white to me. Now of course the Shroud image does not appear as one with pale skin, blue eyes and blond hair and neither do all whiteys have blond hair, blue eyes and fair complexion.

Uh, no, it is not 6’2” . . . The image on the Shroud, is well within the normal height range of 1st Century Jewish men as surveyed by a census of a 1st Century Jerusalem cemetery, at 5’10” tall. That 6’2” figure was based on a skeptic’s measurement of the distance measured on the cloth from the tip of a downward facing toe to the top of the crown of the head, not a distance calculated from the heel (which does not change much when the foot flexes) to the crown, to the top of the head. The average height of the male skeletons found in the 1st Century Jewish cemetery was 5 feet 8 ¼”” . . . The average height of an American Male is 5’ 8 ⅜”, just ⅛” taller, yet there are many American males who are more than 5’ 10” or more in height.

Nor is the image “Nordic.” The genotype is, according to experts in the area, what is termed today, a “high noble Arab” or “Sephardic Jew,” of which about 30% of the population of Judea were composed. The face on the Shroud appears narrower than it actually is, as there are two bands of darker linen running parallel to the body on either side of the center line. This has the effect of making the face appear thinner, or gaunter, than the person would have appeared in real life. Your assumption of a Nordic appearance is a construct of your mind due to the “negative” appearance of the black and white images the display takes on when shown of the “positive” the image has in reality. The reversed color of the B&W images give the mistaken impression of light colored hair, which prejudices the mind toward blond colored hair. There actually is no color data at all on the Shroud about the man it covered, except for the blood.

The image, after normalizing the media (the linen) for color aberration, using a computer to reconstruct the person the image was made from, using the 3D data encoded in the Shroud, along with the stochastic data, and the genotype studies, result in the following obviously non-Nordic result:

Yeah... North Africa/Southern Med. people were white ,, even in Egypt ,, just look at the paintings from the pyramids... Black people from farther south in Africa were generally slave labor in the north... over the millennia the races mixed and the current more or less brown people of the area resulted... Egyptian paintings depicting white people often had blue or green eyes which were made with precious or semi-precious stones which is why they are always missing from the murals...

White guy? There’s no indication of skin color, since the image is a black & white negative. Nordic? The face has a long, classically Jewish, nose...hardly Nordic.

No one can explain how the image was put on the cloth....All the scientific/historic investigation—other than the carbon testing on the patch—points to a 1st Century, Palestine, origin.
