Corey Johnson says New York City has ‘too many parking spaces’

City Council Speaker Corey Johnson may have just slammed the parking brake on his mayoral bid. Johnson fumed to WNYC’s “The Brian Lehrer Show” on Thursday that too much public space is dedicated to on-street car storage, potentially alienating a host of car-driving voters. “I do think that there are too many parking spaces in New York City,” Johnson said bluntly. “We have over 3 million [on-street] parking spaces in New York City … and we should reclaim that space and use it for the public.” Johnson, an early front-runner in the 2021 mayoral race, was responding to a call from “Christopher from the East Village,” who was venting about lack of parking in his neighborhood...

If they are public parking spaces on public streets, in areas open to the public, then that space is already being used for the public. What the heck is this guy up to?>

Real Estate in Manhattan is very expensive.

A large percentage of the public space is used for private vehicle storage, free of charge.

I see no problem with the people of New York choosing to use their public streets for something other than parking.

I pasted our City hall the other day , they had 3 charging things for electric cars and now there’s only one and two more parking spaces for Real cars
