And now it is Tom Friedmans turn to panic about the Democrats sharp turn to the left. Savor some yummy samples from his column yesterday:
Im struck at how many people have come up to me recently and said, Trumps going to get re-elected, isnt he? And in each case, when I drilled down to ask why, I bumped into the Democratic presidential debates in June. I think a lot of Americans were shocked by some of the things they heard there. I was.
I was shocked that so many candidates in the party whose nominee I was planning to support want to get rid of the private health insurance covering some 250 million Americans and have Medicare for all instead. . .
I was shocked that so many were ready to decriminalize illegal entry into our country. I think people should have to ring the doorbell before they enter my house or my country.
I was shocked at all those hands raised in support of providing comprehensive health coverage to undocumented immigrants. I think promises weve made to our fellow Americans should take priority, like to veterans in need of better health care.
So far so good, but the real comedy comes later in the column when Friedman recommends what policy ideas Democrats should be for:
Im disturbed that so few of the Democratic candidates dont also talk about growing the pie, let alone celebrating American entrepreneurs and risk-takers. Where do they think jobs come from?
Friedman hasnt been paying attention. Didnt he listen when President Obama said You didnt build that? (Ditto Elizabeth Warren.) Liberals no longer believe in entrepreneurship and growing the economy (in Bill Clintons clunky phrase). Its the Bernie-Lizzie Party now: the system is rigged! Only redistribution and punitive taxation on the prosperous will satisfy the sanctified envy and blood lust of the ascendent left. The Democratic Party is back to loving workers but hating employers. A winning formula Im sure.
Im adding Friedman to Paul Krugman on my Election Night 2020 Suicide Watch list.
Amazon will handle the situation, quietly and efficiently. In Seattle, thousands of Amazon jobs are being moved to the suburb of Everett, after the city council tried to impose an additional tax on large employers. The move was ultimately rejected, but Bezos hasn’t forgotten.
Same thing in Minnesota. Amazon has enough distribution centers they can shift the work of the Minnesota facility to a warehouse in a nearby state and still achieve required efficiency. Within a few months, the Minnesota distribution center will close, or be temporarily down-sized, so the miscreant employees can be laid off, and (if they decide to retain the facility) new staff will be hired and trained.
I am not without sympathy for Amazon workers. Despite numerous exposes, most Americans don’t realize the Bezos operation is (at the manager and worker-bee level), a sweat shop. For $15 an hour, you’d better produce, in terms of order fulfillment, delivery, billing or whatever your task is. If you fall behind or can’t maintain the breakneck pace, you’ll be terminated in short order. This is not Google, Apple or Facebook land, with free gourmet food, world class fitness facilities, free massages and the other tech-world perks.
Amazon follows a model the robber barons of 150 years ago would recognize, with a tech façade. Folks willing to work—and work very hard—can do well, but if you can’t meet the quotas, well, good luck in your next job.
Next time Trump gaffes stand back a bit and think it through. Then laugh at the sheer brilliance.
Yep. And all those smarty smarts from the Well I Never! wing of the Republican Party will never, ever, in a million years get it. Their bow ties have been cinched up so tight hypoxia has damaged their brains. That and theyve had their heads so far up the rectal cavities of decent folk in NY and DC they havent seen daylight in 20 years.
L
Theyve gone mad. Seriously.
This could explain what has happened to them. It appears that they no longer even have an ability to understand anything that’s true.
2Thessalnians 2:10
and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2Thessalonians 2:11
And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie,
2Thessalonians 2:12
that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
All lives are lunatics and/or extremely low IQ
Friedman lives in a bubble, an old Democratic party manned by Clinton, Mondale and Biden. They pandered to the left whilst taking the big corporate bucks.
As I recall, Reagan was the "Amiable Dunce"
I think i’s too early to revel in panic on the Democratic side. The view that Trump is winning the war of words or tweets is premature. The radicalization of the Democratic party will ne covered and suppressed by the media and the Democratic party leaders by the election. If they run a Biden Warren ticket and soften the message for the middle voters...the independents, they could win.
Thanks for that.
I watched interviews with the strikers and they were spewing pure union propaganda while obviously engaged in vindictive anti company activity.
I hope the facility is in fact closed.
Amen brother, amen
Yes,they are still voting though
In 2020, Trump also wins New Hampshire, Maine, Minnesota, Nevada, and perhaps Virginia and Colorado.
Appreciate the update; I have not seen interviews with the strikers. Again, their knowledge of how Amazon operates is appalling, but consistent with many union members. Bezos won’t tolerate anyone (or any group) that poses a long-term problem. He defeated the tax Seattle wanted to impose, but knows the progressives on the city council will try it again.
His solution? Just move hundreds, if not thousands of jobs to nearby Everett, which is also home to Boeing’s major operations in the Seattle area. Boeing has been “happy” in Everett for a long, long time, in part, because local leader don’t want to kill the golden goose. Now, Everett has another golden goose, and all the benefits that come with it.
Bezos won’t think twice about shuttering the Minnesota facility. BTW, there is a new Amazon distribution center opening in Marshall County, MS, south of Memphis. Down there, $15 an hour is viewed as a good wage (when other positions are paying half that amount). No shortage of people in Marshall County willing to work hard for that money, either. And of course, no unions to worry about.
It’s like they’re just waking up to how insane the Left has become.
Just wait til they start being called racist, sexist homophobic, xenophobes because they had the audacity to say people should ring the doorbell before entering their homes!
Spot on and I am enjoying this as well.
Well, um, Tucker cut his rally short yesterday but perhaps you weren’t watching it.
And I suspect you don’t watch Bret Baier’s show, either. Or Neil Cavuto or Shep Smith or Chris Wallace.
So BS right back at ya.
Yes, I believe it was the un-aimable Sam Donaldson who called him that.
The panic room had better be on the ground floor.
Mysticism is the rejection of reason and reality. Leftard mysticism destroys one's will or ability to think.
I read yesterday that every single demorat candidate is not receiving enough donations to cover expenses. That’s a good sign.
