California, Nevada: The shaking won't stop More than 10,000 quakes strike in last 7 days

The ground is constantly shaking in southern California right now, and this has many concerned that another large earthquake may be coming. I have been keeping my eye on Cal Tech’s recent earthquake map, and as I write this article it says that there have been 10,053 earthquakes in California and Nevada over the past 7 days. I have never seen that number so high, and southern California is being hit by yet another new earthquake every few moments.

Most of the earthquakes are happening out in the Ridgecrest area where we witnessed the magnitude 6.4 earthquake that hit on July 4th and the magnitude 7.1 earthquake that hit on July 5th. But as you can see from Cal Tech’s map, there has been a tremendous amount of seismic activity along the San Andreas fault as well. As I discussed the other day, the San Andreas fault is “locked and loaded” and it is way overdue for “the Big One.” Could it be possible that all of this earthquake activity is leading up to something really big?

Well, the beach may be close to my place. Might be a long drop to the water though.

I've been watching the Caltech site for years searching for patterns. Right now, the San Andreas pattern is pretty normal showing little popcorn quakes. The Ridgecrest quake is showing lots of aftershocks, not new activity.

One thing that is a precursor to activity in SoCal is a big quake off of Petrolia in Northern California. There always seems to be a reciprocal quake in SOCal or Nevada when one of those occur.

Great job to have.

The teenagers on such a tour would not represent everyone but good to know they respected Elvis. Did they like the “deputizing” of Elvis to combat drugs? Supposedly Elvis wasn’t sure of the honorary nature of his badge.

Smithsonian Dec. 2010 “I’m on your side, “ Elvis told Nixon. Then the singer asked if he could have a badge from the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs.

the San Andreas fault is “locked and loaded” . . .

And all this activity could indeed be resettling, relieving stress and preventing the "Big One".

I have seen that map show 8,000 for a week even though none were reported. They just have a lot every week anyways, mostly small ones never felt. But over 10k is probably close to the record.

It’s called a gradual release and reduction of pressure deep within the erf. It should be called a good thing. The alternative is scary.

Would that have been Dutchsinse? He’s very good at explaining earthquake interaction.

Sometimes the little ones are just setting up for the big one. Dutchsinse you tube spells it out pretty well.

Mining? Really? Lol

The left was blaming fracking on earthquakes too, even though the earthquakes originated miles and miles and miles below any depth man has ever been able to drill....

Nuclear testing was last done in the 70s I believe. Too lazy to look it up.

What was really on my mind was lithium exploration and mining in Nevada.

I understood NV to be quite promising for Lithium.

I know other countries have it too, but whatever capacity we have I hope a few earthquakes won’t throw a wrench in the works.

I think you may have misunderstood me.

I was not saying, or implying, that mining operations was a cause of earthquakes. I was inquiring as to whether those earthquakes and subsequent smaller quakes would hurt existing mining.

Yes I did.

What are you a Luddite, a Gaia worshiper? Every state in the union has mining operations

https://www.americangeosciences.org/critical-issues/maps/mineral-resources-data-system-map-viewer

What do you want to do have America pay outrageous fees for minerals and resources by having them all sourced from other countries? Hell yeah! Let's put more Americans out of work and screw the economy!

And as far as nukes? Even in the early days of testing they could differentiate between nukes and natural quakes and considering that these faults are really really old by geologic standards I'm pretty sure if a nuke was gonna trigger 'Te Big One' it would have happened in the nuke testing heydays. More to the point, no one cans set off a nuke nowadays without seismographs around the world identifying where and how large it is.

I had very bad news from our local news station yesterday.

The reporter said absolutely that the current spate of earthquakes would not cause California to fall into the ocean.

Very bad news, indeed.
