NEW YORK Financier Jeffrey Epsteins lawyers, seeking bail for their client, said Thursday that he feared a toxic political climate might cause federal prosecutors to scrap a deal he made with them over a decade ago and charge him again with sexual abuse charges involving underage girls.
The lawyers recommended house arrest and electronic monitoring for Epstein as they countered what they described as a drastic demand by prosecutors that he be detained until trial on charges that he engaged in sex trafficking with dozens of underage girls in Florida and New York from 2002 to 2005.
Epstein , 66, was arrested Saturday as he arrived at a New Jersey airport on a flight from Paris. He pleaded not guilty Monday and a judge asked defense lawyers and prosecutors to submit their bail arguments prior to a hearing next Monday.
In seeking detention, prosecutors said a trove of what seems to be nude pictures of underage girls was found in his mansion after his arrest on charges that he sexually exploited and abused underage girls.
In their submission in Manhattan federal court, lawyers said Epstein always knew federal authorities might renege on a non-prosecution deal signed in 2007 and applied in 2008, around the time he pleaded guilty to state charges in Florida, served a jail sentence and registered as a sex offender.

It’s difficult to threaten prosecutors and politicians when you’re still in jail.
If they let him out of bail I bet he’s gone in 5 minutes to a country with no extradition.
He needs his dental chair, I suppose..............
A lot of people are missing some of the most important parts of the story:
1. Katie Couric and George Stephanouplous attended a Yom Kippur buffet in honor of Epstein at his NYC home just months after he was released from his 13-month Florida punishment, as supervised by the guards Epstein himself HIRED.
One hundred other friends attended that meal, and amazingly, many brought their kids.
2. The newest deal his lawyers proposed the other day, read EACH word slowly, now..!
He will name some of the people who paid for sex in exchange for not more than 5 years.
Parse EACH word, did it get by you, its just ONE word that is operative here:
PAID. Paid for sex. Not later paid incredibly much in return for silence. No, paid for SEX.
How likely is it that many of them paid..? Not many.
Why would he omit from his deal those who did NOT pay? Because those are the most important people and because those are nearly ALL of the people.
And most importantly:
Because omitting the NON payers from being named in Epsteins deal preserves what is most valuable to those who are behind all this and those actually rule America the precious blackmail material Epstein went to such pains to collect, the material that will bind together the powerful people who otherwise would hate each others guts and not work together.
The Big Wheels, the movers and shakers, are left aside so that in the future they can still be leveraged and relied upon. So that they can be called on for their precious, timely, high-level help in future intel ops; moving money around, opening accounts, vouching for the shadowy figures who must be used to do important, little-known things.
To wage wars.
To skew election results.
That is the last guy who needs home detention. He needs to be at Riker’s, put him the general population until he talks.
“read EACH word slowly, now..!”
The word that didn’t escape me was ...’some’.
some?
All of them, you bastard, or we’ll put you in genpop.
$77 million bail..?
Let me tell you:
If this Nectar Pot Intel Operation had backing at the STATE level..?
Then it’s a bargain.
A single F-35 is about $100 million
The leverage they still have over his many victims is intact, and it is absolutely WORTH that.
I think if he gets bail then Epstein is gone, baby, gone.
wow, great point.
For his own safety, Epstein requires solitary confinement in the most secure government lock up available.
Good point. I guess it depends on what paid means!
That or he succumbs to a bad case of Arkancide.
If ever there was a flight risk...
No. His crimes against children are more egregious than failing to register as a lobbyist for another country and whatever else Manafort was accused of doing.
The prosecutors are probably getting phone calls daily from the attorneys of the now grown-up girls supplying detailed information.
Epstein’s billions are up for grabs and Manhattan and Palm Beach’s best tort lawyers are on the case.
Just this morning CNN advised us to “not get HUNG UP about who Epstein’s FRIENDS are.”
Why?
Katie Couric was flying out to Orgy Island and she worked at CNN.
CNN is on the hook.
Absolutely. A lot of people die at home. Slip and Fall accidents are very common.
This guy should await trial while in a SuperMax cell. Just to keep him from getting hurt.
Gosh I wonder if a billionaire who has friends all over the world —including Heads of State— and who owns FOUR aircraft is a FLIGHT risk.
Well Epstein is clearly not as dangerous an individual as Paul "Hannibal" Manafort.
I mean, just look at that guy. He looks like he is just salivating at the thought of committing some more deadly financial crimes.
That will make it so much easier for him to flee the country.
