Trump defends Acosta amid Epstein scrutiny

President Trump on Tuesday defended Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta, who is facing calls to resign over his role in a non-prosecution agreement with billionaire financier Jeffrey Epstein in a sex-crimes case.

Trump told reporters at the White House that Acosta has been a “very good” Labor secretary and that Acosta probably wished he had handled the Epstein plea deal “a different way.”

The president added that he would be looking at the case “very carefully.”

“I feel very badly, actually, for Secretary Acosta because I’ve known him as being somebody that works so hard and has done such a good job,” Trump said during an Oval Office meeting with the emir of Qatar.

Trump downplayed Acosta's role in Epstein's 2008 plea deal, saying, "there were a lot of people involved in that decision, not just him.”

Interesting. Too often “intelligence” is used to excuse or muddle misconduct. The Intelligence community is known for this.

The person responsible for it was one Robert Mueller, who arranged the plea deal in exchange for Epstein becoming a witness in some kind of financial case that Mueller was pursuing. Acosta signed off on it, which he shouldn’t have done, but this was Mueller’s m.o. - remember Whitey Bulgur from when Mueller was in Boston?

Yes indeedy. That was the article I had read.

Truth or fiction? I hope it comes out, and the powers that be don’t leave me wondering.

Who was the FBI head during his original arrest and conviction?

Attorney General?

Who in DC allowed his original sentencing or plea bargain?

Acosta had one meeting about Epstein and was told “he belonged to intelligence” and to back off because Epstein was “above your paygrade”. Mueller also intervened because Epstein had ratted out a couple of Bear Stearns guys when he was running the FBI.

Somebody told him to do this, or at least okayed the deal. Who was it? (This was done so badly that some lawyers are saying that Epstein still may walk.)

Yes, he was THE BOSS.

From what I’ve read about him, he’s a low life just like the rest of them.

He wasn’t the big boss. That was Eric Holder. Acosta was told to back off.

If you don’t believe AGs call the shots then Holder had no role in fast and furious and Loretta Lynch and Bill Clinton really did only talk about grandchildren on the tarmac.

“Acosta was THE US ATTY. THE Boss. The guy who has to approve, and has the ultimate authority to disapprove ANY plea bargain.

Acosta gave a strong case away for no good reason. He is a Corrupt dirtbag which trump should never have hired. But then we all know how bad trumps hiring decisions have been.”

You are correct. Acosta was U.S. Attorney not assistant U. S. Attorney.

You are wrong about the other things you said.

While serving as the U.S. Attorney for Southern Florida, Acosta did approve an arrangement that required Jeffrey Epstein to plead guilty to two state prostitution charges, serve jail time, register as a sex offender, and pay restitution to three dozen victims identified by the FBI.

Acosta was not directly involved in the agreement. Prosecutors had determined it was the best available solution. The prosecution team said conviction by trial in federal court was unlikely.

The FBI under Mueller refused to investigate the case or provide any evidence to support prosecution. The Obama administration wanted Epstein to go free.

When arrested the first time why did the FBI not search all of the Epstein’s real estate locations? Shouldn’t that have happened. Were they told to stand down by Mueller back during the original prosecution?

very smelly

He didnt serve jail time. He got work release and got to spend nights in a private wing of a friendly local jail where he lived overnight as a king. His so called jail sentence was for 13 months. The crimes he was guilty of coulda got him life in prison.

Where is the evidence that the fbi didn’t want to send a serial rapist human trafficker? I have not seen one article making this claim.

Acosta decided approve the plea. He is totally responsible. if he was told what to do, of which as yet there is no evidence, he should have resigned in protest rather than approve this disgraceful plea bargain.

perhaps when Schumer compels him to testify about his sentencing of Epstein it will come to light that he was following orders from Robert Mueller or AG Holder.

>>>He wasn’t the big boss. That was Eric Holder. Acosta was told to back off.

Not sure what you are talking about. I've seen this tossed about on some Q Youtubes and here on FR. Holder was not the AG when JE got the deal of the century and Obama was not the President. Bush was the president and there were two AG's that this would have been overseeing this case: Keilser and Mukasey.

JE pled not guilty in 2006 and the deal was reached between the two parties - over breakfast (between the buddies - Acosta and Lefkowitz) - in October of 2007. He finally pled guilty in June of 2008 to that single charge and that was that. That's 7 months before Obama.

Holder didn't take over until February of 2009.

This is on Bush and his team ALONE.

Well, President Trump just said this earlier today:

“Trump downplayed Acosta’s role in Epstein’s 2008 plea deal, saying, “there were a lot of people involved in that decision, not just him.””

Acosta is a corrupt enabler of pedophilia.

He MAY have been following instruction from superiors, but what kind of man would follow such instruction?

No man I want to know.

Quit making excuses for this toilet scum. You’ll be a better man for it.

I’m not saying it was the wisest decision Acosta made while a prosecutor, but unless they can find any evidence of wrong-doing behind his decision to drop the federal case in favor of the state case then there is no reason for Acosta to step down.

If true then acosta should have resigned rather than reward a rich pedophile
