Britain said on Monday it had contacted Washington to express regret for the leak of confidential memos in which its ambassador described U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration as “dysfunctional” and “inept”.

The memos from Kim Darroch, ambassador to Washington, were divulged to a Sunday newspaper, annoying Trump and embarrassing London.

“Contact has been made with the Trump administration, setting out our view that we believe the leak is unacceptable,” Prime Minister Theresa May’s spokesman told reporters. “It is, of course, a matter of regret that this has happened.”

Trade minister Liam Fox, who is visiting Washington, told BBC radio he would apologize to Trump’s daughter Ivanka, whom he is due to meet.

“I will be apologizing for the fact that either our civil service or elements of our political class have not lived up to the expectations that either we have or the United States has about their behavior, which in this particular case has lapsed in a most extraordinary and unacceptable way,” he said.

She’ll be gone by the end of the month. BoJo will be making a clean sweep of the cabinet and I’m sure of the senior civil service when he gets in. Its going to be a bad day from remoaning sabateurs when all their ‘stop Boris’ candidates have failed to get any traction.

These memos should not have been leaked, and whoever leaked them needs to be sacked, arrested, prosecuted and jailed for breaching the Official Secrets Act. Diplomats should be able to send cables to the government that they serve in the confidence that they will only be seen by people who need to know and can be trusted to keep them confidential.

That said, now that his opinions have been exposed, his position is untenable. He needs to be removed and either pensioned off or sent to another ambassadorial post somewhere else. He is a liability to UK/US relations regardless of the dirty and underhanded way he has been turned into a liability.

Inept is taking over from Cameron with an outright (non-coalition) majority in Commons, then calling early elections to lose it. May should have been dragged out and hung up and beaten like the Italians did to Mussolni. Thanks yesthatjallen.
