Kanye wipes the floor with David Letterman
The Spectator ^ | 6 July 2019 | James Delingpole

Posted on 07/06/2019 6:18:20 AM PDT by Rummyfan

My plan to cut the BBC out of my life entirely is working well. Apart from the occasional forgivable lapse — that excellent Margaret Thatcher documentary; Pointless and Only Connect because they’re the only programmes we can all watch together as a family — I find that not watching or listening to anything the BBC does is making me calmer, happier and better informed.

I’m also learning stuff about myself that I never imagined possible. Like the fact that I have a massive man crush on the rap star Kanye West. Though I’ve long been a fan of his albums, I went right off him as a person a few years ago when he headlined Glastonbury and played quite the worst, most self-indulgent, dreary set I have ever had to endure: no decent tunes or hook, just Kanye the egotist and some glaring white lights shining full in your face as if to show how much he despised you.

But then I watched him on My Next Guest Needs No Introduction (Netflix) and I urge you to do the same, especially for the moment when he brilliantly wrongfoots his interviewer David Letterman. Letterman, you may recall, was just about the biggest talkshow host of the 1980s, 90s and Noughties. Then he retired, apparently to deal with some heart and anger-management problems, grow a snowy beard and reinvent himself as a dignified, nurturing father-confessor figure, looking like a bluesman, dressing like Karl Lagerfeld and acting like New York’s most expensive therapist.

I’m serious. I think in 2024 Kanye will be the GOP nominee. I further would expect Kanye’s opponent would be Dwayne “The Rock”

I know, I know, people laugh at me...

“I find that not watching or listening to anything the BBC does is making me calmer, happier and better informed.”

That’s true of all the alphabet networks and cable news channels, and that includes FNC. I feel much more at ease since I stopped watching that propaganda.

Can someone explain to me how Kanye won his interview with Letterman?

A truly inane article. I must have missed the part where he “wipes the floor” with Letterman.

I don’t get it either. Maybe the title is supposed to be “ironic hipster” clickbait.

I just think that policy/ideology isn’t going to cut it.

It's not so much that 'policy/ideology' doesn't 'work' it's that the sell's harder.

Obama waxed on elegantly about 'more jobs' but his reality was 'cash for clunkers'. Big gap.

I didn't back Trump because he was a celebrity... or because he 'could feel my pain' or word-craft into my heart with speechwriters, but because I felt he was moire able to do the job than to talk about doing the job...

How many times can a group beguile you with stories of a cake so delicious you'll never forget the experience - then serve up burnt crap for the fiftieth time - before you start looking for a baker - (not a talker...)

I know, I know, people laugh at me, but I’m serious. I think in 2024 Kanye will be the G2. OP nominee.

"Don't bogart that joint, pass it over to me" - Country Joe

A few facts of reality....
1. Trump was a known "celebrity" from his uber successful business - BEFORE his TV show.
2. Trump's message from the start was America First - unlike his fellow GOP candidates
3. Trump, in his 2015 announcement, spoke of the illegal alien invasion - unlike his fellow GOP candidates
4. Trump had a background in business & economics that was attractive to voters - unlike his fellow GOP candidates
5. Trump, as a non-political outsider, was recognized by voters as THE answer to the corruption of the Deep State
6. Trump was elected because of the SUBSTANCE of his message was embraced by the voters - not the superficiality of being a "celebrity".

To believe only a shallow, Bi-Polar "celebrity" will be elected is an example of someone lacking a grasp on reality...or using some very powerful mind altering drugs.

Good grief, LS - either get off the drugs or resume your psychotic medication.

I couldn’t trust my feelings. Trumped talked a great game but it took Scott Walker dropping out and Ted Cruz imploding over his inability to accept the reality of what was happening around him before I understood that Trump was the fighter he claimed to be all along. No looking back for me and no disappointment in his performance as the President. This coming year may deal him some serious blows, but that won’t be enough to shake my trust in him. He’s done more for the average working American in three years than the Bushes ever did in 12. He’s got my vote locked up!

I have discovered that for every article claiming that person A wiped the floor with person B, there is an almost identical article claiming that person B wiped the floor with person A.

Ask yourself this: in 2009, would you ever have seen Donald Trump winning the presidency?

No, I know I would never have predicted a Trump presidency back then.

In 2003 Barack Obama was an unknown state senator, not yet a US Senator but a state senator in Illinois. I never would have dreamed he would be elected president five years later.

So clearly someone who is unknown today, or who is well known for something outside of politics, could get into a presidential campaign.

Maybe Oprah will run for president someday. Who knows?

Given Kanye’s proclivities that’s an unpleasant image to put in someone’s mind.

Granted that Letterman’s beards appears to be very absorbent, wiping the floor with him would make it difficult to get into the corners.

LS, I don’t think he’s be the nominee, but I believe Kanye will be a king-maker for the Republicans in 2024.

But I scratch my head trying to think of a successful American business leader who has name recognition and can be trusted to not be owned by the GOPe.

Love your twitter, LS. Go there once a day.

Thanks Rummyfan. The sexist a-hole Letterman saw the writing on the wall with the blowup against Harvey Weinstein, and got "retired" just in time.

Interesting parallel with Dylan who rapped that “the pump don’t work ‘cuz the vandals took the handle” before Kanye learned to rhyme.

I don’t read Kanye wiping any floor here but I didn’t see or hear the interview. Probably lefties are rejoicing at how Letterman wiped the floor.

I just think that policy/ideology isn’t going to cut it.

That part may be true.

But I'll bet you ten tens that Kanye won't be Trump's successor. It's not happening. Celebrity alone is not enough. Trump has an amazing series of gifts, his accomplishments show it. I don't see that in Kanye. He's gritty, independent, and smart, but he needs a lot more than that.

Plus, who knows what will happen after Trump's fourth term.....:-)
