Texas May Cost Trump 2020 (Texas turning purple?)
The Hill ^ | July 4, 2019 | Kristin Tate, opinion contributor

Posted on 07/04/2019 8:40:33 PM PDT by nwrep

Texas demographics today are strikingly similar to those of California in 1990, before Democrats began their seven to nothing streak of Golden State victories in presidential races. Like California in 1990, the Texas population currently hovers around 29 million and is changing rapidly in light of heavy immigration from Mexico. The second generation children of Mexican immigrants have played a major role in keeping California out of Republican reach. This same transformation is taking root in Texas.

Young Texas voters overwhelmingly turned out for Beto O’Rourke over incumbent Ted Cruz in the Senate race last year. O’Rourke beat Cruz with 18 year olds to 24 year olds by a margin of 68 percent to 32 percent and with 25 year olds to 29 year olds by a margin of 73 percent to 26 percent. O’Rourke also outperformed the traditional edge Democrats already have among Texas Latino voters by a wide margin of 64 percent to 35 percent.

With these second generation Mexican Americans strongly supporting Democrats at the polls, Texas changing to a purple state could not happen at a more inconvenient time for Trump. His margin in the state in 2016 was the smallest for a Republican nominee since the poor showing of Bob Dole in Texas in 1996. Considering the immense and enduring new wave of left leaning voters that O’Rourke attracted, there is a real chance that Texas will be close enough in 2020 that Republicans cannot take it for granted.

Republicans are already walking a tightrope between the 2018 midterm results and changing demographic realities. In many ways, the resources used to keep Texas red next year are balanced by the fates in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. Several campaign stops or a late ad buy could mean the difference in the race. Trump could see his electoral chances go to hell, if Democrats spend more time and money in Texas

Re: indoctrinated youth

Indoctrination has very little to do with youth voting.

The most important issue is ethnicity.

New 18 year old voters are 50% non-white.

Children vote like their parents - but a little more to the Left.

Young white voters are 55% or higher for the GOP.

Young non-white voters are 80% or higher for the Democrats.

“Texas AG is aggressively pursuing election fraud cases”

Ha ha - With a force of 2 people, one investigator and one attorney. I’m in Texas and extremely concerned. Illegal aliens and Democrats everywhere one turns.

I’ve been concerned about all the people coming to Texas, but if they are like the two ex-Californians, that gives me hope that Texas remain conservative, Christians, and economically sound. Good to have you, CatOwner.

So you’re okay with relatively new members concern trolling, is what you are saying. There is enough FUD in the mainstream media without bringing it here, which is supposed to be a refuge from such doom and gloom.

Republicans lose minority votes because they don’t bother to go after them. Lost a loyal black voter block for 80 years and not even bothering with hispanics.

They don't bother with Asians, either, which is a big part of why they lost Orange County, CA. I think many of the old school GOP power brokers, especially at the state level, aren't really interested in winning elections. Instead, they work hard to secure future employment for GOP officeholders and staffers with lobbyists and contributors. The GOP is a professional staffing and placement firm for the defense and financial industries..

Good to know.

Have you asked, specifically? I’ve often wondered how so much coordination took place, for 2008/12 elections.

Maybe it had more to do w/plain, old fraud?

Ah, I now see the true gist of your comment to me. You’re concern-trolling as well. Texas will turn blue, it’s destiny and there’s nothing you can do to stop it, blah blah blah. And of course, no voter fraud that will ever be exposed like Mueller would never be forced to stop his witch hunt, and so on and so forth. It does put your name-calling in the right context.

False demographics is not destiny. Thanks for concern trolling.

Five generations? Latinos are the only immigrant population we have had where by the third generation they are doing worse in issues like crime, family formation, and income than their families before them.

And with enough of them they change the culture and the assimilation goes the other way. Also, populations with different success outcomes really never meld together over time. Just look at the Chinese and Muslims in the Pacific Islands.

Of course, affirmative-action gives them every incentive to vote as disastrously up here as their kin have voted and vote south of the border.

The main reason why the Cruz race was close was because of the huge amounts of outside money coming into Texas for Beto. I think it was the most expensive senate race in history. When a race becomes a focus to people/groups that are not even in the state/district, the fundraising, activism, media attention, etc. take over and blow things out of proportion. If there was little to no interest in the race outside of Texas, Cruz would have won easily.

I remain a Republican, but the Republicans have become a far more theological, faith-directed party, not troubling with evidence. …
Interesting quote from the man most famed for saying “demographics is destiny”. Tremendous mischaracterization of the party too; a criticism from a left-leaning standpoint.

You mean ‘concern’. See, ya think people just want to mess with ya instead of looking in the mirror. Whites are getting outbred. That’s the nature of it. You can run around saying that insn’t a problem but the South is changing fast. The ‘left’ went from getting stomped in 2004 under the same sex marriage to now ‘owning’ that in media and politics.

So those who allegedly “outbreed” us are lefties by nature?

Definitely concern trolling.

And the left was not “stomped” in 2004 at all. The GOP-e wing of the Uniparty always works with the other Democratic half; we’re seeing that play out even today, where their quest for power is quite divorced from alleged demographics on the ground and they seek to rule from the top whether by fraud or by decree.

Then disregard my comments. Nothing is wrong. The hordes of people who come illegally just want to vote for Trump. Nothing has changed over the years due to demographics and liberal media and social issues. You are right, I’m completely wrong. The gop will have no problem again because boomers aren’t dying off who support them, etc etc.

Not to be overly optimistic, but consider voting rates as well.

Maybe the homeschooled kids will vote at 50’percent and the public school kids will vote at 20 percent, etc.

It is good to foresee problems. It is not good to decide you are defeated in advance.

Also while we can shorthand predict, in a way, bloc voting patterns based on race, voting isn’t genetic. There are absolutely horrible white liberals and truly great black and Hispanic conservatives. It is more honest and correct to term people as liberal or conservative, not assuming all races vote as a bloc. They don’t of course. Again, acknowledge the problem (people of certain cultures tend to be more liberal) but don’t admit defeat. Donoositive things to change that. Liberal policies are notnin anyone’s best interest.

Some of the cities may go purple, but REAL Texans don’t vote left. He’ll win easily.

May go purple? May? Every major city in Texas is run by Democrats!

It doesn't matter how REAL Texans vote if they're outnumbered. And newsflash; the cities are where the people live. Cows can't vote.

Just the opinion of another mainstream media “conservative”/libertarian who just cannot be honest about just how far left she really is.

Look up "trend analysis."
