Rep. Justin Amash Quits Republican Party
Yahoo ^ | 4 July 2019 | Matt Fuller

Posted on 07/04/2019 3:41:37 AM PDT by Erik Latranyi

Rep. Justin Amash is celebrating this Fourth of July in a manner years in the making: by declaring his independence from the Republican Party.

“No matter your circumstance, I’m asking you to join me in rejecting the partisan loyalties and rhetoric that divide and dehumanize us,” Amash wrote in a Washington Post op-ed posted Thursday morning. “I’m asking you to believe that we can do better than this two-party system — and to work toward it. If we continue to take America for granted, we will lose it.”

Amash, perhaps the most fiscally conservative member of Congress, has increasingly been at odds with the GOP. In May, he became the first and only Republican in Congress to call for the impeachment of President Donald Trump. And in June, Amash stepped down from the once-ideologically conservative, now steadily more partisan House Freedom Caucus.

this jerkwad is simply grandstanding for the dying lying leftist fake stream enemedia because he knows he’s toast with the RNC given that RNC fundraising is now 100% combined with Trump fundraising, so he’s not going to get a single cent from the party anyway ... not to mention he’s got primary opponents pouring out of the woodwork ...

this is his dying gasp of public life ...

If he hasn’t been already, the GOP needs to strip him of every committee assignment. He wants to be an “Independent” while badmouthing and undermining the President, go grovel to Pelosi for assignments and caucus with the Demonrats.

A few minutes ago PDJT tweeted with his size 12 shoe:

“Great news for the Republican Party as one of the dumbest & most disloyal men in Congress is “quitting” the Party. No Collusion, No Obstruction! Knew he couldn’t get the nomination to run again in the Great State of Michigan. Already being challenged for his seat. A total loser!”

Also noteworthy, Beck sang Amash’s praises a few days ago.

So true. He posed as a republican to get elected. He was nothing but a FRAUD. He joins others like McCain, Romney, Kasich....to name a few.

Simply a tactical move, he knew he’d never survive a republican primary.. so he will now run as an incumbent democrat in hopes of holding his seat.

I believe he knows there's no way he can hold his seat...I believe his intention now is to split the Republican vote to give the victory to the Democrats...

What, so he’s NOT frightened by what he sees in the Democrat Party?? As for a third party, that will only help democrats.

Jerk. How about he gets out of politics period, if his core values are so easily shifted.

I completely agree.

We constantly thought they cared about what they campaigned on. We took their word when they said they couldn’t get things done because of the Democrats.

We saw them as the Chicago Bulls in their heyday, but they were always the Washington Generals.

Very good post.

I’m not sure that I agree with you—but my agreement isn’t what matters—the points that you make are worth considering.

The reason I’m not sure that I agree with you is that I think we largely have a uniparty. If we got rid of all the “RINOs” who would we have left.

A republic—if you can keep it.

We are already seeing rulings from the courts we would not have had without Gorsuch and Kavanaugh. It is a simple rule of math that we have a majority in congress. A RINO is better than a Democrat any day. It’s the truth. Primaries are the way to move the party to the right but after that WE NEED EVERY REPUBLICAN POSSIBLE! I’ll proudly vote against a Democrat every time! Democrats are THAT bad!

I'd call Amash a lot of things, but [RINO is] not one of them. In fact, the complaints he's making about the Republican Party are the same ones you see all over Free Republic.

The guy totally lost his marbles when he began criticizing President Trump, though. He should have been calling out his fellow Republicans in Congress years ago. All Trump did was expose the entire party as a bunch of feckless frauds.

Perfectly and succinctly stated.

Good post.

That said, one naturally wants to be able to do what one thinks one is called to do.

No one individual can fix the country.

The only individual who could on his own would be Christ, and given the state of the Church, however you define it, it seems fairly clear that His ways of fixing things usually aren’t our ways.

“Amash, perhaps the most fiscally conservative member of Congress”

Now there is some obvious propaganda for ya. He writes an op ed to the WP even. Calls for the impeachment of the president. He sure sounds like a conservative to me.

Yeppir. You might have a chance of getting a few good votes out of the Rinos, but a Rat is a Rat is a Rat.

John Cornyn in Texas is NOT who I want for a senator, but if it comes down to a vote between him and Bobby O'Rourke, I've gotta go Cornyn.

The two questions posed remain unanswered, and I left out all synonyms because the word used in your post is virility, not some other word. Responding with a discussion of synonyms sidesteps the issues raised.

Well at least he is no longer pretending to be a Republican now. Unfortunately he may continue to claim to be a “principled constitutional conservative” for a while.

I predict his voting record will get even worse now, since he longer has to worry about making it thru a GOP primary or casting token votes with the GOP caucus because he “has to” to maintain his Republican committee assignments.

I feel sorry for the GOP voters in his district that have to put up with this guy’s antics because he likes the national spotlight.

Anyone heard from his fan club lately? Are they still making excuses for him?
