Harris says busing should be considered, not mandated

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Sen. Kamala Harris said Wednesday that busing students should be considered by school districts trying to desegregate their locations - not the federal mandate she appeared to support in pointedly criticizing rival Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden last week.

Harris had a breakthrough moment at the candidates’ first debate when she criticized Biden for his opposition to mandatory school busing when he was a senator in the 1970s. Harris said she benefited from busing as an elementary school student in Berkeley, California, in the early 1970s.

“That’s where the federal government must step in,” Harris said, looking at Biden and winning a burst of applause from the auditorium in Miami.

“I think of busing as being in the toolbox of what is available and what can be used for the goal of desegregating America’s schools,” she responded.

Asked to clarify whether she supports federally mandated busing, she replied, “I believe that any tool that is in the toolbox should be considered by a school district.”

As Willie Brown once pointed out - Horizontal Harris has two sides.

It didn’t work 40 years ago, so why would it work now?

I proudly stand with Kamel Harris and support her being put on a bus and transported over the border to Canada or Mexico for further transportation back to Jamaica or India.

So does this mean that Krassy Harris is coming out in favor of “SCHOOL CHOICE” and the right for black parents (and ALL parents, regardless of skin color) to send their children to a better school than public schools that fail “the community”?

In some regions, it’d mean you have to haul your kid around 30 miles to get them out of a marginally-run school, with 3rd-rate teachers, and it’d mean these poor schools having to shut down within three years because no one wants their kids there.

Instead of Bussing how about simply offering school choice?

If you really cared about those kids.

The Democrat who finally breaks with the party line on school choice will win the nomination... but I doubt any of them will do it.

Someone should ask her why educating black kids isn’t working well.

They need to stop indoctrination and start education. Stop teaching black kids that they can only make it if whitey helps them. Start teaching them that if work hard in and out of school they too can become prosperous.

An excerpt from a Michigan NPR site of Nov 12, 2013 reflecting on Busing in Detroit in the 1970s.
Often wondered how that worked out for the city.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,
“Nancy Jennings highlighted the problems with busing on our Facebook page:
When I was bused in 1975, I went from my relatively well resourced all black school to an all white school that was far more rough around the edges with much poorer environment than I had experienced before. Looking back I don’t think that was the original intent of pushing for busing.
The intent of the case was to make it possible for all students in Detroit to have access to the same high quality education. Forty years later we are still looking for ways to achieve that goal.”

I thought it was discovered that her well-to-do nonUS citizen parents moved to Canada which is where she attended school?

And ln some cases, like the Kansas City Public School system fiasco, after having millions of dollars, extorted from taxpayers who aren’t served by the schools, thrown into the toilet only to continue to fail. All thanks to one tyrant in black robes.

Wow. I predicted she would flip after (if) she won the primary.

This is’t a complete flip but it was a lot faster than I thought.

Should have realized the first poll would force her to backpedal.
