CANADA has dealt a massive blow to the UK after refusing to roll over its trade deal with the EU in the event of a no deal Brexit, leaving officials furious.
The decision not to roll over the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) if Britain crashes out of the European Union without a deal on October 31 could have a huge impact on businesses selling goods to the Canadian market. Britain has insisted Canada roll over CETA, even in the event of a no deal Brexit, but the North American country is awaiting the outcome of any further talks between London and Brussels before making a final decision, a source at the Department for International Trade told BuzzFeed News. The same source told the news website British trade officials are furious at the embarrassing rejection, having spent the best part of a year trying to convince Canada to extend CETA.
A spokesperson said: Depending on an agreement being reached between the UK and the EU concerning a transition period, Canada would consent to the UK remaining party to CETA and all other CanadaEU agreements during that transition period.
Canada is watching Brexit closely and encourages the UK and the EU to agree on their future relationship as soon as possible.
..Mr Fox will face MPs in the House of Commons later today, and will likely be grilled on the slow progress his department has made in replicating the 40 trade deals.
As of last month, just 11 deals had been rolled over, including those with Switzerland and Israel.

Just Trudeau being Bohica.
Britain contributes greatly to the EUs finances. I think Canada will regret this decision.
Disloyal is unbecomming a Canadian.
Canadian election is Oct 21.
Let’s see what happens after that.
Perfect time for the U.S. to say “We’ll trade!”
That about sums it up. I’m disgusted! I’ve been hoping for a Commonwealth trade pact for a long time — apparently, Trudeau isn’t on the same wave length (no surprise).
Trudeau is likely doing this, to support the “Remainers”, and to suck up to the EU. I hope he’s out of office, on October 22.
Commonwealth trade pact sounds like Global Elitist.
We already have the Commonwealth — it’s not a new idea.
Good luck with that Globalist Elitism.
If the red line is EU Average on the chart, why is the chart not balanced in over/under?
Trudeau didn’t do this on his lonesome. He hasn’t got the guts.
Someone should leak the government’s comms on this subject. I bet they’d make interesting reading.
And our economy is 15 times larger than Canada's.
Are you guys having an election in October? If so,what are the chances that Trudeau will be defeated?
Why shouldn’t countries like Canada and the US use this opportunity to strengthen their trade position against the UK? If the UK wants to retain the same trading privileges as the EU, then why not just stay in the EU?
It isn’t that easy. To sign a trade deal means to compromise on some things. As President Trump stated the sales of medicines to the NHS, plus the American ambassador said the sales of American poultry products which have different standards to the UK standards would not be negotiable. So the UK will have to agree to US standards in order to get the US-UK trade deal.
The UK trade commission may agree to it with no discussion, then the trade deal will be done quickly
If they want to discuss, or even worse, if the UK public object, then the trade deal won’t happen or will take long to happen (best case)
Of course the US, Canada, India and China are using this opportunity to get massive concessions from the UK.
India is negotiating more work visas and temporary residences for its citizens.
The US will negotiate opening the medicine market and poultry markets for US producers. etc
This is a wonderful time for any other country - it’s like watching an antelope separating VOLUNTARILY from the herd...
It is supposed to be held by Oct. 21 — but, it could be earlier. It hasn’t been called yet. Reason, sanity, logic, good sense, national interest, the common weal, and karma would all indicate Trudeau will be turfed. But, we’re talking about a Liberal; so, I’m not making any bets.
I was in Quebec just last week and didn’t see anything that looked to me like political signs/billboards,etc.But then everything’s in French so maybe they were all over the place and I just didn’t recognize them.
