HARRIS WANTS FEDERALLY MANDATED SCHOOL BUSING
Powerline ^ | JULY 1, 2019 | PAUL MIRENGOFF

Posted on 07/01/2019 4:10:42 PM PDT by Hojczyk

A few days ago, I wrote: “I hope [Kamala Harris] will be asked to state her position on the busing of young school children for racial purposes in today’s America.” Now, she has been. Here is her answer:

I support busing. Listen, the schools of America are as segregated, if not more segregated, today than when I was in elementary school.

Where states fail to do their duty to ensure equality of all people and in particular where states create or pass legislation that created inequality, there’s no question that the federal government has a role and a responsibility to step up.

It’s interesting to hear Harris say that states have a “duty to ensure equality of all people” and that the feds have “a responsibility” to step in if states don’t meet this alleged duty. Was Harris talking about a general obligation to ensure equality of the races? If so, her candidacy is beyond radical.

But even if Harris was talking only about a duty to ensure racial balance in all schools, her position is extreme and unpopular. Busing children out of their neighborhood for racial reasons has never polled well. In the early 1970s, when Harris was bused, only 4 percent of whites and 9 percent of blacks supported the idea, according to a Gallop poll.

At the end of the century, by which time such busing had been abandoned in most jurisdictions, including Berkeley where Harris went to school, 82 percent of Americans opposed busing. Blacks were split 48-44, with the plurality opposed.

Yeah this is a winning issue.

She will backpedal as soon as she wins the primary, if she does.

MOST will backpedal when they win the primary.

Harris is more flexible in her positions (Willie, you listening?) than most. If this doesn’t fly, she’ll nuance it.

She’d say anything from “Let’s bus half the white kids into the ghetto schools” to “Let’s take the best-performing black kids to the white teachers” to “Oops, nevermind”, depending on which way the polls blow.

White kids have an unfair privilege of not having to fear hair trigger acts of violence and continuous classroom disruptions. They must be brought down at all costs.

Sorry, but ... No. If they were still that segregated, some of them would be a lot better than they currently are.

Biden isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed but EVEN for him he dropped the ball on this one. He could have told her how Busing was an awful idea that was forced upon regular people by Judges and politicians.

Post-17th Amendment ratification Sen. Harris unsurprisingly doesn’t seem to understand that the states have never expressly constitutionally given the feds the specific power to dictate INTRAstate school busing policy.
”From the accepted doctrine that the United States is a government of delegated powers, it follows that those not expressly granted, or reasonably to be implied from such as are conferred, are reserved to the states, or to the people. To forestall any suggestion to the contrary, the Tenth Amendment was adopted. The same proposition, otherwise stated, is that powers not granted are prohibited [emphasis added].” —United States v. Butler, 1936.

In other words, not only is Sen. Harris is trying to win Oval Office with dubious qualifications, but also with unthinking promise of unconstitutionally expanding the already unconstitutionally big federal government’s powers.

Remember in November 2020!

MAGA! Now KAG!

Who cares what she wants? She’s not eligible to make that kind of policy reversal as president because she’s ineligible for that office.

She’s raising money for personal use

California to Maine

Washington to Florida

. . .

That reminds me of a couple of kids in school in WA.

I’m talking 1963.

They said they were moving.

To Florida.

The benefits were better there.

I still remember their names, but being kind, won’t dox them.

Worked with a guy who was bused with his sister to a majority black school in Florida in grade school. Said the bigger kids would pin him and his sister back to the ground so other kids could spit in their face. Bussing was a great idea that needs to die.
