Here’s the problem - - when newspapers favor the ‘democrat base’ they ignore that a high percentage of the democrat base is ‘people of color’. The black community and other ‘people of color’ communities are NOT not heavy newspapers readers the way the white community had been... (Black people don’t go to Unitarian Churches either...)
An press exception is the Chicago Defender but it’s an exception that caused by historical ties to the black community going back decades.
Trying to get black readers is like trying to get young readers... it’s just not gonna happen in large enough numbers to keep the doors open. A newspapers has to accept their base is white middle class, middle aged white people... and that half of them are conservative traditional Americans.
Based on my neighborhood where newspapers are delivered into yellow boxes by the mailbox, no one under 55 or so gets the newspaper.
Years ago, everybody had a yellow box.
The WSJ has traditionally had a conservative op-ed page - the rest of the paper has always been liberal... (IMHO)
What could possibly explain this? My take:People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in some contrivance to raise prices. It is impossible indeed to prevent such meetings, by any law which either could be executed, or would be consistent with liberty and justice. But though the law cannot hinder people of the same trade from sometimes assembling together, it ought to do nothing to facilitate such assemblies; much less to render them necessary. - Adam Smith, Wealth of Nations (1776)All that remains is to explain how people of the trade of journalism meet together - and once seen, the answer cannot be unseen: the wire services. The AP in particular, but all have the same tendency to unite the papers ideologically. Why are they leftist? I put it to you that the proper definition of socialism is, cynicism directed at society, resulting in (or motivated by) naiveté towards government. Journalism is about bad news, which calls the virtue of society into question - and that suggests the virtue of more government. Empowered by its conspiracy against the public, journalism calls itself objective - knowing that in fact journalism is negative. Calling negativity objectivity is cynicism, neat.
I noticed they had a web site that didn’t like my ad-blocker.
Welcome to the digital age, Vindicator.
Bye bye!
The leftists infiltrated and took over the journalism schools.
After that it was all over for the journalism profession but the screaming.
The Washington Times is probably not a major, but having a different slant in D.C. is a plus.
to find the names of several more.......https://www.2ndvote.com/
I guess I should subscribe on-line to help them.
also the Washington Examiner
“Daily Oklahoman” in Oklahoma City is about as conservative as you can find. It’s also struggling with declining readership. Conservative or Liberal, the problem most papers are facing is people aren’t buying them.
. . . but not the engineering schools. It was easy to take over the journalism schools because leftism is cynicism towards society - and commercially successful journalism focuses on bad news about society. A natural fit.
Professional journalism was supposed to be about reporting the facts to the best of your ability—not pushing an agenda or having an “angle” that pushes away facts that don’t fit.
Journalism can be a great profession—but those days are long gone.
My own experience (from local politics) is that it is very difficult for the reporters to get all the facts right. They often lack the technical expertise to understand the issues being presented or to ask the best questions.
They are forced to rely on “experts” who often have their own agenda.
Journalism is tough to get right, and it is easier to just become a propagandist who shills for “their team”.
OHIO PING!
Please let me know if you want on or off the Ohio Ping list.
