In the 1920s, the Ku Klux Klan was powerful in Oregon, so much so that the Legislature passed a law banning religious, primarily Catholic, schools. The Supreme Court overturned the law. But perhaps Oregonians, then and now, were fond of masked thugs who support the state’s ideology, then anti-Catholic, now anti-American.

I spend most of my time in Eastern WA and Eastern OR and visit Portland occasionally. Sure, I would stay away from parts of downtown Portland, but that was true when I was a little kid 55 years ago. I think your comment is overstated and hyperbole when applied to the whole city.

I think your comment is overstated and hyperbole when applied to the whole city.My comment was not about the whole city. It was about the downtown. That is where we like to stay. That is where the violence is happening. Therefore, not hyperbole. Reality.
Silly would be the suggestion that an entire city is unsafe because there are riots downtown.
Do you like the Kimpton Downtown or are you afraid of that area of the city?
