Seach warrants show feds cast wide net over Poway synagogue shooter's digital life
LA Times ^ | Jun 16, 2019 | GREG MORAN

One day after John T. Earnest allegedly stormed into a synagogue in Poway and opened fire in an attack that killed one person and left three injured, federal agents moved quickly to trace his online movements by getting two search warrants — one on an infamous website that is a haven for extremist and racist content, and another on the digital giant Facebook.

The two warrants obtained by FBI agents sought information not only on the online history of the accused gunman, but also those who interacted with him on his postings on 8chan, an online forum that is home to virulent racist, anti-Semitic and neo-Nazi message boards, and Facebook.

In an affidavit, an FBI agent said that people who commented on or possibly interacted with Earnest "may be potential witnesses, co-conspirators, and/or individuals who are inspired by the subject posting." The agent also said investigators might learn what motivated Earnest to plan and execute the deadly attack.

The documents shed some new light on the immediate aftermath of the April 27 shooting at the Chabad of Poway.

The agents sought the warrants on the same day that San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore said publicly that investigators believed Earnest had acted alone, and without any outside support.

Another article from a more mainstream source has a little more detail in it than the article I posted on this topic last week.

FBI stands for all bad apples. Not a good one in the Basket of deplorables.

An interesting side effect that I have learned about lurking on the Q thread on FR is that this is being used to explain the disappearance of Q by some of his fans.

(For those who don't know: all "Q" posts since late 2017 have been on 8chan. Q, as of today, has not posted for more than a month, 5/26/19)

The FBI is saying that anyone posting on a thread that is frequented by someone who goes on to commit a crime is liable to be pulled into the investigation. Given the large number of crazies on 8chan one can understand how that will have a very chilling effect or normal people's willingness to engage there.

Why it would be a worry for Q or the supposed Q team of military intel people isn't clear. Obviously skilled intel operatives have lots of effective ways to hide IP addresses.

Of course, if it's the 8chan mods themselves who are running the Q operation (as has been credibly suggested by some), then things just got very dicey for them.

It's all fun and games until the FBI shows up on your doorstep with a search warrant.

Any of these people would be foolish to answer any questions. The Feds are just looking for a way to charge someone with lying to a federal law enforcement officer. A form of perjury trap.

Basic concept here seems to be: “We’d like to poke around and see what we find.”

Once upon a time, warrants like that were not allowed.

Talking out of both sides of your mouth again with the SOS.

What are you really trying to sell, fomenting division and animosity between Freepers?

Did you miss Enigo’s video, it was the next post below yours of one of two other threads you’ve posted on this subject:

You may be “offended” by the chans if you choose to be, but what you are doing is nonproductive and hurtful to some very good patriots fighting their digital war in their way to defend your freedom of speech.

Not smart.

The FBI is a mere political secret police formation, going after ideas it dislikes. Always has been since it was created by the homo Hoover in the progressive era.

The FBI behavior in this case, including the accusations that they themselves were setting people up on the thread in questions (which is what the video links you posted show) is an incredibly important topic.

It relates directly to the platform we are using.

Your claim that I'm somehow "formenting division and animosity between Freepers" is baseless. I posted an L.A. Times article, with minimal framing commentary simply pointing out that I have posted previously on this topic. As I said, this article has some new information and is from a MSM source, which is also always interesting to see.

The Chans are what they are. I don't choose to visit them, for the same reason Jim doesn't let people link to them, they are vile and disgusting. But still the first amendment is there to permit speech that is unpopular.

The claim that this lone-wolf was "planning" his attack with people on 8chan is clearly ridiculous. As others have said, the FBI is going on a fishing expedition, and as I said an intended side effect is to get people to stop using 8chan.

I noticed that Redit /theDonald was put into Quarentine, which in Redit terms means it's difficult to find, I guess. This was done just in time for the first Democratic debate.

And then we have the Google revelations from Project Veritas.

It's clear that the Leftist control freaks hate any forum that they don't control, and they plan to use the ones that the do control to push hard for their favored outcome on every issue and in every election.

what you are doing is nonproductive and hurtful to some very good patriots fighting their digital war in their way to defend your freedom of speech.

I have no idea what you are trying to get to here. Which patriots fighting which battle. Certainly the people putting snarky comments about the synagogue shooter on 8chan are not defending anything I care about.

It sucks that defending freedom of speech often requires defending people who are idiots. I'm reminded of the famous case of ACLU fighting for the right of Neo-Nazis to march in Skokie, IL.

That's the position I'm in here vis-a-vis 8chan. I don't particularly like the platform and find much of what is posted there offensive, but I still defend strongly their right to run their board as they see fit, as long as they are not using it for clearly illegal purposes, like planning terrorist attacks.

90% of your posts on FR are on the Ransomnote eternal thread. I think you are just bummed out by me noting that we are into month 2 w/out Q. I think that's an important fact, too.

Things are changing.

In 2019 warrants do NOTHING to protect the rights of the accused. Even at the FISA level they are all rubber-stamped.

Exactly, that's why this might be the most important topic on FR right now, and one that we're not talking about enough.

It's interesting that apparently 8chan totally folded and gave the Feds everything they want. They didn't even try to rally Free Speech supporters while doing it, they just quietly acquiesced.

Contrast that with Apple who have fought multiple times and rufused to crack phones for the FBI. Who's are the real patriots? I have a hard time seeing 8chan's response as useful to the larger cause of Free Speech.

They always start these campaigns with the most offensive group they can find.

The Google deplatforming started with Andrew Anglin's "Daily Stormer" web site, which again, like 8chan was a ridiculous Neo-Nazi infested train-wreck of a site. Once they had used that completely unsympathetic example case to show that ISPs, Web service companies, Hosting services, and Google had the right to make value judgements and de-platform people as they alone see fit -- the trickle began, and is now a flood of deplatforming.

It's no longer merely the most vile site you can find being pulled down, it's all of Black Pigeon Speaks being taken off YouTube, it's Project Veritas's videos being pulled down, it everyone to the right of Mao being "de-monitized", it's Salesforce.com refusing to let businesses that sell guns use their software.

This is the battle we are in the midst of, and yet the people making noise about it are few and far between. The right seems "stuck on stupid", with the "they are private businesses they can do what they want".

AT&T, when they had a monopoly on phone service never said "We are turning off the phones of the John Birch Society because we don't like their rabid right-wing anti-communism.

But now, we accept Google (whose monopoly dwarfs AT&T's in it's power) doing exactly that.

We're apparently mesmerized by the ridiculous libertarian idea that censorship can only be done by the government.

An extended quote from a recent Zman post:

None of this is an argument against self-government or commerce. It’s that free markets and self-government are not ends in themselves, but a means to an end. The point of human organization is the spiritual and material prosperity of the people. The form of government and the economic arrangements are about the welfare of the people, not some theoretical ideal. If defending democracy means defending rule by sociopath, maybe democracy, at least the extreme form, is not a great idea.

Similarly, if free markets result in the people being terrorized by global technology giants, maybe a little less economic freedom, in order to reign in these companies, is a good trade-off. After all, the point of economic order is not to achieve private tyranny in defense of a theory. The point of economic order is to benefit the people, collectively and individually. If it requires government regulation to have prices on goods and services that indicate the real value of the items, that’s not a terrible trade-off.

We're caught between a rock and a hard place.

The tech giants are too big and strong to fight with anything other than government.

The government has stopped being a fair umpire a long time ago, and is now quickly becoming another tool controlled by the globalist elite.

I hope we are getting to an “I am Sparticus” moment. Leftist corporations (the snitches) are undoubtably working with the police state to squelch speech that they don’t like. What I am concerned about is that instead of outright bans and deplatforming, we are probably seeing police state trolls working to entrap their opponents on sites left open to dragnet operations. This is where tyranny moves from soft to hard.

Evidence collected by the police state needs to be highly scrunitized and unless perfect be rejected. We should also be talking about and promoting jury nullification.

This is fascism, the ultimate expression of socialism. You can only judge people by their actions now. Not their titles or beliefs. And anyone can morph into an agent Smith at anytime.

“An interesting side effect that I have learned about lurking on the Q thread on FR is that this is being used to explain the disappearance of Q by some of his fans”

That just shows how you continue to cherry pick BS.

The 8chan board in question (/pol/) is NOT the the /QResearch or even /PatriotsFight/ boards which ARE the places “Q” team posts.

But just like the Corrupt Coup Media, you cannot help but lie, twist and obfuscate.

A couple of silly posts do not constitute broadly accepted explanations of the situation by “Q” fans.

We remain comfy with the almost daily confirmations of things shown a
year ago. Enjoying the show, as it were. Especially while the other side
continues to panic.

And in terms of engagement in the actual “Q” space? That continues unabated, albeit with a notable increase in desperate shill activity.

Your pedo-raptor blackmail controlled deep state corrupt coup cabal continues to panic, and shill, desperately.

It would be amusing, if we didn’t know what they do to children.

There is no way that the government should enact speech regulation. They could attack goggle et al via anti-trust laws. But of course, that would be like attacking a member of the family. I think we would see some sort of market crash if they did it a real way.

“””Things are changing.”””

Yes they are.

So you sit back in your pretty little safe place behind the lines sniping at those on the front lines of the battle for your freedom writing volumes of meandering rationalizations as I don’t intend to waste time chasing you around the cul-de-sac swatting down your BS.

For now, you aren’t a threat to our enemy, if you ever were.

You should check with the L.A. Times and see if you could be a Moran too, you’d fit right in.

You’re going where we are going. Relish that thought. ;)

MAGA
