The president disputed Speaker Nancy Pelosis (D-Calif.) assertion that he would need congressional approval for any hostilities against Iran.
"I disagree," he said. "Most people seem to disagree."
"They have ideas. Theyre intelligent people. They'll come up with some thoughts," Trump said, referring to lawmakers. "I actually learned a couple of things the other day when we had our meeting with Congress."

No, he does NOT need their “okay”; this is NOT declaring war another nation/s.
Trump is putting a lot of pressure on a lot of people from all sides.
He reminds me of General Chesty Puller, The Scout breathlessly reported “Sir they have us surrounded”
Puller says “Good, that greatly simplifies the equation”
Let them show their true faces, remove the masks.
Trump has given EU and all equal warning
Lil Kim, Mexico, Canada, EU, NATO, ME.. Russia, all given fair warning
After 9/11, Congress passed the Authorization for Use of Military Force against Terrorists. The IRGC is a terrorist organization. And...for other reasons. The President has the authority to wage war.
He needs about the same permission from Congress that Obama got, before attacking Libya.
“I actually learned a couple of things the other day when we had our meeting with Congress.”
Such as don’t trust Congresscritters. They squealed to Iran, who then put 150 civilians on location, causing Trump to cancel.
We need to stop talking about war with Iran and preparing for war here after the 2020 elections. We have plenty of enemies here at home. Both US citizens and foreigners here legally and illegally.
Of course he doesnt.
Any eighth grader should know this. Thanks to the teachers unions, they dont.
As for Pelosi; she is so deluded that she believes her powers are equal to those of the President. Her opinions should be factor weighted accordingly.
I thought Hillary attacked Libya.
Slick move. That worked out great.
Every president (D and R) since 1945 has been relying on resolutions and such to wage war. And Congress has usually been happy to pass those resolutions. Because that’s less risky politically than voting “yes” or “no” on war.
So now we have resolutions that allow for quick surgical strikes. One and done. And now we have resolutions that allow for major, years-long wars.
That’s not what the Founders intended. So I’m hoping that what Trump is saying here is one big, clever bluff.
I do not remember the specifics, but the President has the Constitutional authority to carry out military operations for (I think) 90 days before Congress makes a declaration of war. It is appalling that Pelosi is so unaware of that fact.
The media? One America News and various sources like LS - Larry and other known media truthers.
As for the left, they can all burn.
> So Im hoping that what Trump is saying here is one big, clever bluff.
Trump knows another war will be a GAME OVER for his popular support, and there’s no chance that it can turn out otherwise.
One problem here is the well-intentioned ‘Authorization for Use of Military Force Act’ of 2001. It gives the president the power to strike anyone responsible for 9/11, and to use force against “international terrorism”.
The Act has no limitations as to time.
Both Bush II and Obama have used that “international terrorism” phrase as justification to strike groups - or countries - that they have labelled as terrorist.
So now we have troops in Afghanistan, the Philippines, Yemen, Kenya, Iraq, and elsewhere.
I hope I don’t have to add Iraq to that list. Trump is a very smart guy. But there is such a thing as mission creep. And that’s especially true when a country doesn’t take a putative strike laying down.
Perhaps Iran needs to be hit. But this is not a situation where there is an attack on the U.S. at this moment. So congressional approval would be something the Founders would have wanted.
I hope I dont have to add Iran to that list.
“They squealed to Iran, who then put 150 civilians on location, causing Trump to cancel.”
Is that true?
Slight error.
Hillary attacked the Libyan Ambassador.
