Hasbro announced Wednesday it will release a version of the classic board game Monopoly designed for the digital age. But financial experts argue the games new design could deprive children of important financial lessons.
In Hasbros HAS, -0.58% latest edition of Monopoly, gone are the paper money and Community Chest cards. Instead, the board game now comes with a voice-controlled, artificial intelligence device shaped like a top hat.

What? No Bitcoin?? :-)
That doesn’t sound fun. Seeing and counting the money was an important part of the game.
How many bitcoins is St Charles Ave?
Luckily for those of us who like the classic version of Monopoly, this cash-free version is just another choice on the market. They don’t plan to eliminate the traditional game with the paper dollar bills. Every so often, I’m in the mood for a Monopoly game. It takes a while to set up, so all parties need to be really into playing for a while.
Hasbro is based in East Providence , RI “nuff said!
There a thousands variants of monopoly, so this is likely another variant and a test product to see how it is received.

Hasbro has been licensing themed editions of Monopoly for decades, but every once in a while a special release comes along that seems irresistible.
Heres a version that pays tribute to the 40th anniversary of one of the greatest movies of all time (for my money, the greatest of all time), The Godfather.
Heres how the game is described in the press release:
Reminisce and relive The Godfather story anew as you play Americas favorite game with a killer instinct the Don would respect.
Expand your familys interests by amassing property and influence as you seek to bankrupt those around you.
Buy, sell and trade the likes of Woltz International Pictures, Moe Greens Casino, Joes Diner and Hyman Roths Home as you muscle your way to an empire.
Make them an offer they cant refuse as you vie for the Corleone Long Island Home and Corleone Lake Tahoe Estate (the prime properties traditionally occupied by Boardwalk and Park Place).
Travel the board with one of six game tokens: the horse head, cannoli, Genco Olive Oil tin, the Dons limo, a dead fish or the tommy gun.
Familiar Chance and Community Chest cards have been replaced with Friends and Enemies cards and bear in mind that the friendly game of Monopoly is the best place to keep your friends close, but your enemies closer.
The MONOPOLY games traditional houses and hotels have been turned into Hideouts and Compounds, and the game features new Don cards allowing each player to align with a particular family and employ a potentially lethal strike.
The Corleone card, for instance, entitles the bearer to a kidnapping of an opponent while the Tattaglia card affords its owner a single money laundering opportunity.
Since there is no consigliere to offer advice, players must take care of their family at all costs.

Really taught a lot of people about buying and selling, making investments, and learning how to manage money.
The real money-making properties are the Yellow and Red ones. Too many people focus on getting Boardwalk and Park Place or the Green ones, but IMO the Red and Yellow ones are the key.
The fun was having a big stack of Monopoly Money.
They just killed the game > IMO.
Just as with Coca Cola. There are at least 12 versions I can think of off the top of my head, and I don’t even drink Coke sodas anymore. It ‘scalds’ my stomach. Ginger Ale or nothing for me.
Oh, thanks.
Now I get it.
Hey, I remember them doing this years ago. They had a card version before, didn’t they?
too funny, my kids just played Monopoly last night. It wasn’t with cash and it wasn’t with that top hat thing. It was with a card reader like samsung pay or paypal pay. My husband and I hated it because you didn’t get the “feel” of losing or gaining money. You would have to swipe your card and the reader would tell you how much cash you had in your account.
Artificial intelligence? So, it might be smarter than 99.8% of Dems...
Monopoly Electronic Banking edition
It's been around for more than ten years.
Gotta get the chilrun’s all ready for the Mark of the Beast.
What? No cash? No problem! The State says it all must be electronic.
You DO want to do what the State tells you to do and think what the State wants you to think, right citizen?
Will that be right hand? Or forehead?
Exactly.
They are priming the next generation.
