The values that made me a supporter of RFK in 1968 put me at odds with today’s progressives.
The core beliefs that made me a liberal in 1968 put me at odds with many of the things “progressives” stand for today, 51 years later.

The writer is remembering the earlier Democrat party when it concept of ‘liberalism’ was more along the lines of ‘classical liberalism’ of the 18th-19th centuries.
Big liberal changes:
1. Using the intel community for tons of stuff is totally cool. It makes you TOUGH and serious.
2. Starting wars represents Proactivity.
3. Talking a whole lot about the dire need for Transparency is an absolute requirement. Responding to requests to comply to that, though, is uncalled for and annoying; it’s a sign of unsophistication.
4. Don’t like abortion? Don’t get one..! But yeah, gimme all your guns.
5. Explore your inner spirituality. Just don’t go all crazy and study about Jesus.
Old type Liberals are going extinct. If Joe Lieberman were an animal, he would be at a special preserve...
It is really quite simple. Republicans strive for equality. Emancipation, civil rights movement ..et al. Democrats strive to gain power, and whos major tactic is to “get even.” KKK, early progressive/socialists, liberals modern progressives... Its what Democrats have always done and always do.
B.S., down deep, this is what Liberals were always about.
