A respectable position, IMO.
But I don’t like “proportionate”. In my opinion in a 9/11 type of incident, if Iran managed to kill (let’s say) 3000 Americans, I would support bombing Tehran with the goal of killing over 100,000. Seriously. The notion of “proportionate” only goes so far. Step beyond the unmanned drone, and we need to be able to think more broadly about response.
So much for “fake news.”

Pelosi recently implied that Iran was an ally of the U.S. because of Obama’s nuclear deal with them, and it’s Trump’s fault for backing out of it. Do the Dems really want an ally that’s the #1 sponsor of international terrorism?
If the president wants proportionate retaliation, all he needs to do is exercise his Twitter finger with informative tweets aimed at the right targets. And there’s a target rich environment at his disposal.

Last night I was completely wrong about this story. Looks like the NYT got it right. We’ll see what else comes out.
Not proportionate for this specific incidence. But shooting down this drone needs to be placed into perspective with Iran being responsible for many American deaths over the years, in Iraq, terrorist actions and otherwise. That case needs to be made with the citizens so that next time there is something similar to the drone attack happens, we won’t feel restrained by the fact that no one died. A whole lot more than 150 Americans have died at the hands of the Iranians over the years.

Trump was/is right. It was an unmanned drone. Nobody got hurt. This not something you start dropping bombs over. Unfortunately, there are some people in the administration who have been desperately looking for an excuse to go to war with Iran. Trump needs to check these dangerous fools and quickly.
It would be interesting to see what lines lit up after democrats met with Trump... Who called Kerry? What Iranians were in the loop?

It is my opinion that Iran is deliberately trying to provoke a war with the United States. I think there is much social unrest in Iran, and the leadership is getting desperate to focus dissent on an external enemy instead of them.
From what i've been reading, the average man on the street hates the Mullahs, and wants them out of power. The Mullahs think that by starting a war with us, they can re-channel this dissent into a direction advantageous to them.
Trump is smart for not taking the bait. Let them do something even more provocative before hitting them back, and we will be in a better position if and when the need arises to hit them back.
Soon it will be the Demonrats calling for the complete annihilation of Iran because Resident Trump didn’t do anything about this. If he is indeed the ultimate Chess player then has has just shown the world what he isn’t and has shown he is tempered and reasonable which calls for the Dems to become unreasonable if they want to be seen as differing from him or they will have to agree with him.I bet they have their little panties in a right knot over this. I think this is not about Iran as much as it is Trump being is own man. A man that can be returned come 2020!
Trump’s playing a psychological cat and mouse game with the Mullahs ... he’s more or less daring them to do something even bigger so that there would be actual proportional justification for the pending attack (most likely against nuclear facilities) ...
if the Mullahs are smart, they won’t take the bait ...
if not, and the Mullah’s are stupid enough to take the bait (like the dying lying fake stream enemedia always takes Trump’s bait - sometimes even in the form of fake leaks when he wants the to publish something), then the Mullah’s will regret the hell that Trump will unleash on them ...
