Winston, MO A legally armed citizen helped save a wounded police officer from the inmate who shot her and tried to force her to help him escape on Friday.
The attack occurred just after 3 p.m., as 24-year-old Trenton Police Department (TPD) Officer Jasmine Diab was transporting an inmate from the Trenton jail to the Mosaic Hospital in St. Joseph for a mental evaluation, WDAF reported.
One of the men was legally carrying a firearm of his own, and was able to corner Griffin at gunpoint, KCTV reported.

One of the men was legally carrying a firearm? I don’t get it.
For what purpose? She's going to receive full pay while on disability leave......
Oh wait.. i had to read it a few times more.
Shes not built to be any kind of prisoner escort !
I miss our Pug.

Yeah, ‘urinalists’. As if it’s a revelation that an ordinary citizen would even consider carrying.

Compared to the above story - I wonder what the difference was/is?? Hmmm...
She’s cute.
That’s not a good attribute for a peace officer.
Yeah, I kinda thought that too. She was taking him for a mental eval so someone at the cop shop had to at least think he was off.
The reporting was so choppy and so sloppy, I had to fill in most of the blank spaces myself.
All in all, that officer probably should not be transporting prisoners by herself. Meanwhile, she would also benefit by better securing her weapon. I can’t judge her, because I don’t know what the normal condition of weapons secured really is. Maybe the prisoner could have wrangled it away from any officer, be they a big man or a small woman.
The scene described, with private citizens following a car with prisoner and officer struggling for control of the wheel is quite dramatic, and could have ended up very differently.
Glad the women cop is ok but she needs more training. How did she ever allow her weapon o be taken?
Transporting a 38 year old male? Was he caged in the back of the vehicle?
Has anyone in her chain of command been asked if they considered the difference in strength between the two before assigning her the task?
I recall a story about a couple of FBI guys somehow having one of their weapons taken from them from the perp in the back seat and him killing both of them. Strange stuff happens. I, of course, could be mis-remembering the story. Buehler?
Missouri is a much different place than California. Plain and simple.
Hope she'll be okay.
And yeah, she needs a LOT more training.
Hard part about that job is you get the test before the lesson.
True of all facets of life.
Prayers for her recovery. Now what kind of transport procedures are they using??? Did she have him in the front seat or something? No cuffs - although they’re not foolproof? No cage? No way this should have happened.
