Not only was he not expecting to hear these positive comments...he didn't hear them. I'm sure there were probably some negative ones too, or comments that Mr. Matthews heard as negative. The leftist MSM is so wrapped up in it's own agenda-driven echo chamber I'm sure all Chris heard was what Chris wanted to hear. The unexpected comments that don't support his agenda have already been forgotten, the video relegated to backup archival storage never to be touched again...

I have noticed whenever dems are hearing the other point of view, regardless of what show they’re on, they sit there and shake their heads “no”. The Trump supporters are simply telling of their actual experience, and a brain dead Trump hater is just sitting there shaking her empty head “no”. So does she think these people are lying? How dare she disagree with what they have experienced?

This is one of their tactics - I see it on FOX all the time. Just sit there and shake your head negatively so that the audience thinks the other side is lying. They shake their heads solely because they don’t like what they’re hearing.
