In case you missed Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's (D-NY) latest hot take, the freshman lawmaker accused the Trump administration of running concentration camps on the U.S.-Mexico border, in reference to the detention facilities where asylum seekers are often held.
"And that the fact that concentration camps are now an institutionalized practice in the home of the free is extraordinarily disturbing," she said in an Instagram Live video. "And we need to do something about it,"
Lawmakers and social media users chastised her for minimizing the cruelty of the Holocaust, but the backlash only emboldened her to double down on her egregious analogy.
Please @AOC do us all a favor and spend just a few minutes learning some actual history. 6 million Jews were exterminated in the Holocaust. You demean their memory and disgrace yourself with comments like this. https://t.co/NX5KPPb2Hl— Liz Cheney (@Liz_Cheney) June 18, 2019
Fox News anchors didn't hold back either. On "America's Newsroom" Tuesday morning, Bill Hemmer asked Ocasio-Cortez a series of questions to determine whether she had any authority to make such a comparison.
Bill Hemmer GOES OFF on AOC's "concentration camps" comment:
"She used the extermination of 6 million people... 'Never again' is the phrase that Jews use all over the world to make sure that the extermination between 1939 and 1945 never happens again." pic.twitter.com/LeiMrahO9v— Caleb Hull (@CalebJHull) June 18, 2019
"Has she ever been to Yad Vashem in Jerusalem?" Hemmer asked his guest, Art Del Cueto, the VP of the National Border Patrol Council, during a segment on her remarks. "Or Auschwitz, Birkenau, and southern Poland? Or Dakau in Germany?"
Hemmer had one final question:
"Does she not owe every Jew on the planet an apology?"
I had the honor of walking through the Yad Vashem museum during a trip abroad in 2016. I and several of the fellow tourists in my group failed to make it through the building dry-eyed. I'm sure countless others can report similar experiences, for the atrocities committed against the Jewish people are not to be compared.
FWIW, it’s Dachau.
I knew a Catholic priest who spent the War there.
I knew someone who spent his childhood in a concentration camp. He said he escaped death by hiding under the latrines.
I heard the conversation this morning. Good for Hemmer but he didn’t fume - he was very professional when he spoke. Possibly, there was a teeny twinge of disdain.
Senators reach a deal on emergency border funding
What are the chances she does?
Someone should drive her straight down Independence Avenue that runs past the House office buildings to the Holocaust Museum on 14th Street in DC. Take the 3 hour tour! THEN you come out and compare the concentration camps to the holding sites on the border. She’s so extraordinarily stupid it about takes your breath away.
If we were able to deport them like we should, then they wouldn’t be in detention long at all.
You send a Stripper to Congress and you expect what exactly??
AOC may be interesting from a psychiatric point of view, but news of her antics has gotten real, real old.
She’s a dem so we know right off she’s a liar but she’s also a communist so she’s a $#%#@ liar too.
Evil woman for sure. She needs to be kicked to the curb. Hard.
I’m only two years older than her. I’m ashamed that she is a member of my generation.
Perhaps AOC, Omar, and Tlaib should spend a week or two in Auschwitz so they get the real feel of a concentration camp.

I say we waterboard all three of them. A lot of interesting stuff is sure to come out
I went to Dachau in 1980. Those memories still haunt my Nightmares!
Its these big government people that will create real concentration camps here. Remember fun camps?
But that being said, the unchecked federal bureaucracy could get there under any administration.
AOC needs to see the movie Denial.
13. No. A visit to concentration camps would only encourage. The Nazis are their kind of people.
My old butcher in Buffalo spent time at Dachau, then managed to find safe haven in Britain, where he was kept in an internment camp because he was a native of Germany and they were at war.
At the time, there weren’t yet any death camps. Dachau was just detention and bad treatment.
The British had concentration camps in South Africa for the families and servants of still-belligerent Boers after the fall of Praetoria. Bad treatment, yes. Death camps, no.
Spain had concentration camps in Cuba where they literally starved rebels to death.
OAC, however, is talking out her ass, as usual.
