St. Louis Blues And Their Fans Celebrate As One At Stanley Cup Parade

It rained on their parade. And they didn't care.

After 52 years, a little liquid sunshine wasn't going to stop the long-suffering hockey fans in St. Louis from celebrating their team's first-ever Stanley Cup win in euphoric fashion.

The city’s director of special events was expecting about 500,000 people to attend Saturday’s downtown parade and rally at the Gateway Arch. Afterward, Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic reported that city and team officials revised that estimate to “more than one million.”

It was par for the course for a fanbase that had shown up in a big way as the Blues’ unlikely playoff run reached its triumphant conclusion.

With their team playing the deciding Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final in Boston last Wednesday, demand for tickets to the watch party in St. Louis exceeded the capacity of the Blues’ home at Enterprise Center. No problem — the St. Louis Cardinals opened the doors to Busch Stadium.

Actually, the rain let up by the time the parade started. The players were terrific, getting out of their cars and giving high fives and signing autographs for the fans watching the parade. They even brought the Stanley Cup to the fans so they could touch it.

Gd bless em all. I remember both Manhattan Beach Cup parades when the Kings won. So fantastic, such joy. Hard work really paid off for the Blues made the playoffs so exciting. Congrats!

If St Louis won the hockey tournament, what did Toronto win? The football trophy?

The skill and dexterity of the players stii amaze me. Just make the goal a little wider and taller and make the goalie crease larger. More long shots...more time for goalie to react to deflections...just my 2 cents from a playoff hockey fan.

The winning teams win of the cup, to me, is even greater because the team they beat( The Boston Bruins) were a fantastic team. I wish they could have kept playing to the start of next year’s season. No team that played in the playoffs need hang their heads. Play it all 25 times you might get 25 different outcomes. The fans won a great season. IMO

Gentlemen is a term used loosely in hockey.

500,000, pfft Boston does not even promote parades that small and cars. Its not a parade without Duckboats.

Patriots parade hits record with estimated 1.5M fans

I didn’t get your joke at first...but now I do regarding the whole Canada/US thing. I think... LoL! Role reversal to be sure.

“Gentlemen is a term used loosely in hockey.”

Actually, off the ice players are very polite and grateful for what they have. The money spent by their parents on coaching and training as well as their gear reaches into the $100,000 dollar range. By comparison, in basketball all you need is a playground, a pair of sneakers and a ball.

Hockey players that I have known, and worked with, are some of the funniest people I know.

I should have indicated I had my tongue firmly placed in my cheek.

Pittsburgh turned out two crowds that size after Stanley Cup wins.

Imagine how big the crowd in D.C. will be if they actually try to impeach Trump.

“Hockey players that I have known, and worked with, are some of the funniest people I know.”

I coached ice hockey for over 20 years. The biggest problem I had was with selfish players. Turns out their parents were POS who would gladly destroy a team so their kid could shine.

I once shared this with my parents. Not sure who said it, but I give a hat tip to that person.

With a combined statistical area (CSA) population of over 8 million, it would be expected that the Bruins would have a sizable turnout, and 1.5 million would be less than 1 in 5 people turning out for the parade. For St. Louis, 1.5 million is more than half of its CSA, and even 500,000 would be more than 1 in 3 people turning out. I have a feeling that the official count is less, though, probably around 300,000. Still a good turnout for St. Louis.

I’m sure Duckboats make fine parade floats, but being in cars made it easier for the players to get out and mingle with the crowd.

It was neat to see the Pietrangelo holding the Stanley Cup on the Budweiser wagon as it was being pulled by the Clydesdales.
