California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) in an interview published Monday said the Republican Party is headed for the “waste bin of history.”
In an interview with Politico, Newsom compared national Republicans to the GOP in California in the 1990s.
California Republicans were once a force, but have seen their power disappear over the last two decades.
Washington Republicans will "go the same direction — into the waste bin of history, the way Republicans of the '90s have gone. That’s exactly what will happen to this crop of national Republicans,” Newsom told Politico.
Former California Gov. Pete Wilson's (R) push for a ballot measure in 1994 that prohibited illegal immigrants from gaining access to public schools and health care has been widely linked to the GOP's erosion in the state.
Newson drew a connection between that and today's politics.
“America in 2019 is California in the 1990s,” he told Politico. “The xenophobia, the nativism, the fear of ‘the other.’ Scapegoating. Talking down or past people. The hysteria. And so, we’re not going to put up with that. We are going to push back.”
Newsom also took several shots at President Trump, though he stopped short of calling for impeachment proceedings to begin. He instead voiced his support for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), a longtime friend and fellow San Franciscan.
“What’s so remarkable about someone with the experience and temperament of Speaker Pelosi is that she’s seen a lot of movies,’’ Newsom said. “She’s been there. She’s got a better sense than a lot of folks. So I think we should stay the course. What we’re doing is working ... I think Democrats are winning right now.”

I lived in CA for years, and like Rush was saying today, we voted Prop 187 into law (thus depriving all illegal immigrants of medical and educational services) and it was struck down by a judge, and then the appeal (which easily would have been won) was abandoned by Grey Davis.
The reason why CA is blue isn’t because all the people turned blue...its because everyone red LEFT to Nevada, Arizona, Montana, and Idaho. The rest of everyone else is so demoralized in thinking that nothing can turn the ship around that they’ve abandoned the ballot, and the CAGOP’s inactivity only reinforces this feeling.
All Trump has to do is go to California and ask the locals if they like the way the Democraps have remodeled their state. Then tell them “3 years ago After 29% unemployment, I told them to vote for me. What do you have to lose? Now they have historic all time low unemployment, same for latinos. These white liberals have lost you jobs and raised taxes. People are cramping in the street and their answer to the problem is create an app on how not to step in it. You have homeless lining streets, and none of it is due to a single Republican. So To to the blacks, orientals and latinos of CaliforniaI again ask, what do you have to lose? Vote to DNC bums out and I will make California Great Again!”
This is what happened to Republicans in CA. They went along with all of this crap in the hopes that they'd get some of those voters.
Gavin Newsom is truly a scumbag because he's giving an interview talking about Republicans rather than running his own state.

That’s certainly seems to be true in California, but when you have an insane and rigged system of elections that eliminates Republican candidates from the general election (and disenfranchises Republican voters) I can see the GOP would have some trouble continuing to exist.
God forbid that the political cancer of California (and Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, etc.) becomes the norm in the United States.

years are we better or worse off today than back then? Then
take it back to when Columbus sailed the ocean blue. Things
are forever changing and we have to adapt as best we can.
