Thom Hartmann has just published a new book entitled “The Hidden History of Guns and the Second Amendment.” Thom is a progressive radio host, and he is brilliant. If I could only live in his mind for 10 minutes, I would forever be happy.
Before you turn off at the sound of “progressive,” understand Thom is a great historian; and no matter where you fall on the Second Amendment, there is plenty you can learn about the history of gun ownership in the U.S.
Hartmann goes on to talk about the election of 2016, an election most of us were able to vote in. Near the polling places, people were holding guns, showing that they had a right to carry. He says, “It’s hardly surprising that open carry has become the new white hood” (referring to what we know as the Ku Klux Klan).
He wisely points out that even the kind of paint used on children’s toys is regulated, but we have not done anything to regulate guns. You can be pro-Second Amendment and pro-gun, but you should read Thom Hartmann’s book to get the full history. It is well researched and can help anyone’s understanding of how we got here and what we can do about it.

Straw man argument. We regulate the paint on children’s toys because children put toys in their mouths. An overzealous government is the main reason for the 2nd. Why would we want the very ones we defend against regulating our defense against them? We wouldn’t, that’s why.
I have listened to thom on the radio once or twice. IMHO so the anyone else who has heard him wont feel baffled too. He talks like someone that intelligence was wasted on.
Horse Hockey. Firearms are THE most regulated industry in the US.

An argument that starts with a lie has no foundation in fact. Guns must be serialized (by regulation). A test identification bullet is on file (by regulation). The possession of automatic weapons is controlled (by regulation). Background checks exist (by regulation). I could go on and on, but I think I have made my point.

The Gun Control Act of 1968.
The Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986.
The Assault Weaopn Ban of 1994.
Not to mention the myriad of state and local gun laws and bans, including those in California, New York (State and City,) Connecticut, Delaware, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts.

Bull****. There are thousands of laws and regulations covering firearms in America. I have a Federal C&R license and the ATF used to send me a book every time I renewed it. It was the size of the old Sears catalogs.

Simple - because it’s NOT IN THE CONSTITUTION that ownership of cars CANNOT BE INFRINGED! Author should look up the meaning of “infringed” - i.e., hindered in any way at all (MY definition).
Adding requirements like vehicles have is hindering ownership.....

Thhhhomm Hartmann is a genuine moron. I remember one day some years ago that I had some time to kill and called into his radio show to ask him what would be the maximal tax rate anyone should pay before he’d consider it too much. I also asked him if he thought at all about the impact on whether people would consider the cost benefit to paying it versus quitting and living off public assistance. He would not give a straight answer to either question.
I thought about reading it, but the author tipped his hand with this last little phrase:
“It is well researched and can help anyone’s understanding of how we got here and what we can do about it.”

Article yes, book no. As I said, based Ellen’s
comments, thom the “brilliant”, not so much.
Before 1934 guns were largely unregulated, the way the Constitution intended.
Since then, it has been one infringement after another.
Test “ID” bullet? Several firearms I know of have a “test round” fired but not sure that it’s an “ID” bullet. Clarification someone? Beuhler-——?
A similar article keeps popping up on my Google front page. There is apparently a new campaign to push the narrative that the Second Amendment is inherently racist and was intended to allow whites to oppress blacks and kill Indians.
When someone is this desperate to disarm you, it doesn’t take a lot of imagination to guess what they plan to do after they succeed.
