It’s hilarious. The whole thing. Imagine two narratives.
1. Kid shoplifts. Gets caught. School punishes student with stern warning, requirement to pay for stolen goods, and kicks him our for a semester.
2. Kid shoplifts. Gets caught. School takes kid’s side and says it’s wrong to tackle shoplifters and store must have been racist to have even sussed out that the kid was a criminal and furthermore we encourage everyone to boycott the store.
Oberlin chooses option 2. Insanity.

Well put. When one works to attain property and it’s stolen from you the thief has literally stolen a piece of your life. The time you spent working to get that property can never be gotten back. So unless the thief in question returns it and then works to make amends for the transgression the world is out of balance.
That’s why thievery is so very very wrong. It’s not the thing that’s stolen that’s important. It’s the time out of the victims life that is.

Great to see this “culture of theft” is being exposed.
The picture is much clearer now. The Gibson Bakery was standing up for the entire small business community when it stopped the thieves from shop-lifting.
And why need to steal anyway? If parents are paying $70,000 a year to have their student attend, why not call Mommy and Daddy to send a check?
I’m happy to see Oberlin’s fraudulent culture and administration is being exposed. There’s a lot more corrupt auniversities like them who need to be drawn out.

I wasn’t aware that the shoplifters were even Oberlin students. I just assumed they were run-of-the-mill street thugs and the SJ Oberlin glommed on to the situation to make a statement.
In any case, I’m glad they ruled in favor of Gibson. I don’t think the college will suffer, even though thet’re crying poor-mouth. I think Tucker said they have about $1 BILLION stashed away, so let them whine. Let them pay, and then whine.

Presumably, they give a lot of need scholarships to minorities. I read that Oberlin is 15% black, which is much higher than most elite schools, even though underrepresented minorities are given preference.
I wonder if white students had shoplifted and beat up the store owner trying to stop them whether they would have been in trouble with the school. That kind of behavior has to be pretty unusual for students at most elite colleges.

Story says Oberlin did not want police records revealed, because racial makeup of arrestees was included— that showed majority of shoplifters from 2011-2017 were Oberlin students.
Of those, the majority of arrestees were ...white! Reflecting local demographics!
So IOW, Oberlin wants to smear the business with accusations of racism, while suppressing discovery of the actual FACTS to the contrary!
