Civil War Days will go on as scheduled next month in the Lakewood Forest Preserve near Wauconda, but it may be the swan song for what's been a popular event for 27 years.
The abrupt move came at the directive of Angelo Kyle, president of the forest district's board.
"I believe it has run its course. It has fulfilled whatever it's purpose was," said Kyle.
"This is a re-enactment of a war over the enslavement of African Americans and there are some people who don't want to be reminded of that," he later added. "Some of the things that really happened are not in the history books."
"This ugly, racist, evil war is nothing to be celebrated nor re-enacted," activist Ralph Peterson Jr., said during the public comment portion of the meeting.
Peterson said he represents activists, Black Lives Matter, clergy and "caring, conscious residents of all persuasions."

One of his major complaints (not included in the text) is that reenactment would feature uniformed Confederate soldiers and Confederate battle flags.
So then how does Kyle know about them?
What a bunch of ingrates.
Ingrate?
The guy is an unmitigated MORON who obviously doesn’t understand his history or how free speech works or public park lands.
He should be fired from that position immediately and barred from holding public office ever again.
He doesnt want to be reminded of the war that emancipated his people? He should read Underground Airlines to see what life would be like if the Civil War hadnt been fought.
“This is a re-enactment of a war over the enslavement of African Americans..”
Then it must follow that the war was also to free African Americans. What a maroon.
Actually he’s a MAROON.
Thanks Nikki
Change the Name,,,
Mountain Men days,
Gold Rush Times or
Buffalo Soldiers Rendezvous.
Those Reenactors are alot Fun!
Social Warriors Haven’t a Soul.
He’s just afraid people might find out how many Union soldiers lost their lives to free the slaves - that could dilute demands for reparation - can’t have that.
Angelo Kyle is a proud promoter and sponsor of the “Lake County Afro Fest” a festival celebration of “Pride, Tradition and Culture” held on along the Waukegan lakefront.
Here are some more of the moron’s comments (compliments of the Lake County Sun):
President Angelo Kyle said he attended the event in the past and would prefer to see the Forest Preserves focus on environmental issues such as climate change.
There were a considerable number of Confederate flags and a number of other things I took into consideration, Kyle said.
In 2015, the district staged Civil War Days shortly after South Carolina removed the battle flag from its state Capitol. At the time, forest preserves officials said Confederate flags were not being displayed inappropriately at the Lake County event and were used in a historical context.
Kyle, who is African American, said on Tuesday that history is written by the victors, and he believes there is only one side to the story being told at re-enactment events.
Our ancestors told us what really happened. Did you know that black soldiers were put on the front line in the North and Southern front lines so they would be killed first? he asked fellow board members.
“...it may be the swan song for what’s been a popular event for 27 years.”
For sure, thanks for the reminder
Nobody thought it would end, probably. They thought it would be Wauconda Forever.
Let the reenactors wear Soviet, Red Chinese or No. Vietnamese uniforms instead of Confederate ones. I really want to see the reaction of the leftists, the extortionists of BLM, etc.
Maybe they just want to clear the way to Document the Start of CW-II ?
He a-pears to be an elected official, so he cant just be fired. And Im guessing he was made president of the parks board by his peers.
Abraham Lincoln should have had his way with the slaves.
See BS Sunday morning did a story of the golden spike historical park and the completion of the transcontinental railroad. The story was hijacked by their story line that Chinese laborers built the railroad. Cheap labor did not build that railroad. Engineers and businessmen with Anglo-European backgrounds built that railroad. The labor could have supplied by almost any ethnic group. The Chinese offered nothing special to the effort. Scots/Irish probably built the eastern segment, Along with Italians and Russians and Germans ,etc, etc.
