Mayor Pete on Tax Cuts: 'The Reagan Neo-Liberal Era is Now Over'
PJ Media ^ | 15 June 2019 | NICHOLAS BALLASY

ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, a 2020 Democratic presidential hopeful, said the governing philosophy of Republicans such as former President Ronald Reagan, who signed across-the-board tax rate cuts to grow the economy, should not be repeated in the future.

"What we've seen is that the rising tide rose, right? GDP went up. Growth went up. Productivity went up -- big numbers went up and most of our boats didn't budge. For 90 percent of Americans, you start the clock right around the time I'm born. Income didn't move at all -- so lower to middle income, really, almost all of us," Buttigieg said during a campaign fundraiser in Alexandria, Va., on Friday.

"And what we've learned is that supply-side idea that you just cut taxes and make the rich better off and it will find its way to the rest of us is wrong and the Reagan neo-liberal era is now over," he added.

Buttigieg was not available to answer follow-up questions from reporters at the event.

Didn’t Mondale tell us he was going to raise our taxes, in a debate with Reagan?

“We’re both going to raise your taxes. He won’t tell you. I will.”

Buttibutt pulling another Mondale.

Increasing .gov spending and cutting taxes is not a solution. The never cutters have been in charge for decades. Global wage arbitrage, offshoring, legal/illegal immigration, and other foolish ideas are merely the cherries on top of debt.

I misread it as Moondale. I think I’m going to use that if he ever comes up again.

To some extent, this guy is the gay Obama (if that’s not redundant). As Joe Biden might say, he’s the first gay candidate who’s clean, articulate and not overtly flamboyant. He’s also a red diaper baby raised by an avowed Marxist dad. Coming out of high school he wrote a winning essay for the JFK Library on a courageous American... Bernie Sanders. As Wordsworth put it, the child is the father of the man.

Discriminatory programs against the middle class, particularly the white middle class . . . school taxes, public hospital taxes, “diversity’ (i.e. non meritorious) scholarships, free this, free that, for the so called “poor” (i.e., minority), increasing state and local taxes, et al

All served to weaken income and net worth, offsetting to offset the much-needed income tax relief set in place by GOP Presidents

ButtPlug doesn’t have a clue. He’s as ignorant about taxes, finance and economics as he is about female anatomy

Pete, why not try running for something within your reach, such as dog catcher or state representative. A mayor who won with 8500 votes is not going to win the presidency.

30 years ago, MSM would have gone to South Bend and looked around.
No one wants to see Gary East.
MSM loved O because he was almost black.
MSM loved Pete because he is homo.
O had black guilt.
Pete, no homo guilt.

Yeah I think that’s a pretty good comparison. The fact that he’s got a bee in his bonnet about “neo-liberalism” tells me he’s a thoroughgoing theoretical leftist. In that sense he’s again like Obama who was fully doctrinaire but was sold to America as some sort of pragmatist.

I will add that Obama was in fact a pragmatist but only in method. He was a fully committed leftist but as a practical matter he was a master incrementalist and art-of-the-possible-ist. I will credit him for having a keen sense of where the limits were. He went right up to the limit but no further. His discipline is a big part of what made him formidable, and, paradoxically, transformational.

Its hard to bring wages up with the border wide open, and H1Bs still handed out like party favors.

He looks light in the loafers in that photo!! I wonder if anyone ever won by writing about a conservative like Reagan or Trump.

He is a mayor of a failed city, one of the top 3% most violent in America. And he has the gall to spout like he is some great statesman and inevitable president? Only a CIA candidate could act this bold.

Because Petey is the center of the universe, as we all know.

Petey needs to come out in drag so the media will love him even more.

Mayor Pete has a point in a way though. Reagan’s tax cuts didn’t have lasting benefits because George HW Bush undid them and everything else Reagan did, then turned the country over to Bill Clinton. But to say Reaganomics has not worked is nonsense, it worked great before Bush I threw it away with with a tax increase he promised he would never do, which tanked the economy by the way.
