Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a controversial measure on Friday that blocks localities from becoming sanctuary cities and mandates they cooperate with federal immigration enforcement.
I am proud to sign the bill presented to me by the Florida Legislature to uphold the rule of law and ensure that no city or county jurisdiction can get in the way of Floridas cooperation with our federal partners to enforce immigration law," DeSantis said in a statement on Friday.
"This is about public safety, not about politics. We must do everything within our power, and use all the tools available to us, to ensure that our communities are safe.

“Controversial”? I suppose it is to dimocraps. Sounds right to me since I am in a sanctuary town.
Why the HELL is this controversial??
*APPLAUSE*
“...Why the HELL is this controversial??..”
Just another way of saying the radical Marxist left does not like the idea of stopping the creation of more votes from Undocumented Democrats.....
Gov. DeSantis is turning into a very good governor.

“Why the HELL is this controversial??”
Sounds kinda American to me.
Because we have entered The Twilight Zone .
RDS seems like a real strong candidate for 2024!
Faux News: “...controversial”
Its a law that requires cities obey the law.
Such radical thought.
DeSantis would be a good VP choice for Trump in 2020. He’d be better able to carry on the fight in 2024. IMO
But the sanctuary cities weren’t controversial?
And VP choice in 2020. Then he’d be better able to carry on the fight in 2024 as POTUS..
Excellent.
Now if only CA would follow...
Because ACLU says it is. They also say it is anti-immigrant, unconstitutional, inhumane, and hurts our families and communities,” the ACLU of Florida said on Twitter.
But a Republican governor and Republican state legislature still gave in-state tuition to illegals a few years back.
Sounds good to me too. Why is it “controversial” to say we’re going to enforce our laws and not let so-called “sanctuary cities” violate our laws? At the very least “sanctuary cities” and every official associated with them are complacent in breaking laws - aiding and abetting outlaws. Long past time we start prosecuting city officials (politicians and LE) who allow criminals to roam free. Charge them as accessories to every single crime committed by any and all illegals.
Lets pass a law that makes it illegal to break a law?
“Controversial”
