U.S. officials have told Fox News that the crew of one of the two stricken oil tankers damaged outside the Persian Gulf were detained by the Iranians Thursday after first being rescued by another merchant vessel.
The crew of the Front Altair was first rescued by the Hyundai Dubai, according to U.S. officials, but Iranian gunboats quickly surrounded the ship and demanded the crew be turned over. The captain ultimately relented and ordered his crew to surrender.
The 23 crew members are now being held in Iran. Its not immediately clear what the next steps are.
Pictures and footage from Iran's English-language Press TV showed the crew members, saying they are all in "full health". The 23 crew members, who were apparently in the Iranian southern port town of Bandar-e-Jask, appeared to be watching a speech by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Almost zero chance any of the crewmen being held are Americans.
The Iranians have found that hostage taking is lucrative. This time they are not dealing with John Kerry or Barack 0bama.
However this ends the Iranians must not be rewarded for hostage taking.
From the article:
11 of the crew were Russian, 11 Filipino and one Georgian.
The ship that first rescued them is required to render aid by international law. Pulling them off that ship at gunpoint is very curious behavior. I have a hunch that Putin's message may have been a little more than, "Thanks."
I see. Thanks.
That may explain why I sense concern, but not panic that turns into a quick rage.
I was one of the possible false flag folks but this changes the completion for me. I am not a shoot from the hip kinda guy and don’t jump to conclusions with no real data. I think people who immediately blamed the Iranians and believed the boat pulling the limpet from the side of the ship proved it it was them are naive since there was no real proof. All of it could easily have been pulled off by people with rational reasons to see war.
Essentially taking the crew hostage shows intent. I guess they are stupid because they really don’t have a rational reason to do this.
Who, besides maybe some unnamed US official, has said that happened?
” Its PIRACY on the sea IMHO.”
By definition.
How would a rescue by the Iranian Navy look different than by the US Navy?
I certainly didn't; in fact, I'm more than a little skeptical. When you see this sort of battle of narratives there's always something else going on. What does not appear to have happened is any serious attempt to sink the ship in question. We do know that the crew was removed and is now in Iran, at least if the picture is correctly accredited, and that's all we know.
I think the ships and crew are not from the US. I read where they were from, but forgot, but the point was that they were not US.
Thanks Innovative. Iran's just framing itself because they're in collusion with Bolton, Pompeo, and Trump! ;^)
Oil prices? If they go up, this clearly benefits Russia too. 11 Russian crew members, hmmmn? And as I said, one report, I think I posted it earlier, said Putin thanked the Iranians for rescuing the Russian sailors.
“I think people who immediately blamed the Iranians and believed the boat pulling the limpet from the side of the ship proved it it was them are naive since there was no real proof. All of it could easily have been pulled off by people with rational reasons to see war.”
Lets see? A ‘dud’ munition stuck (magnetically?) to the side of a hull, and somebody other than a person from the country perpetrating the attack removes the munition? That took brass one’s don’t you think? I would think they’d call in an EOD unit to make sure the darned thing isn’t booby-trapped or otherwise go off with rough handling. The guy snatched it off the hull quickly like he knew it what it was, and that it wouldn’t go off.

I think they probably got tired of CNN and it was the
only thing on.
Probably no reruns of “Achmed’s Island” that day.
“The bomb-maker and, Mary Ann, here on...”
(I know there are a lot of Iranian Christians - just a little joke)
May bacon be upon Khamenei.
[I think they probably got tired of CNN and it was the

The MSNBC satellite-feed was probably not working, either.
Amrika Akbar!
Maybe they have “Late Night with Ayatollah Khamenei”
First guest, respected news anchor Brian Williams.
He’ll tell a harrowing tale of being shot down in a chopper in Iraq!
Hm, I wonder if Putin had his Iranian pals grab the crew for safe keeping. He may have figured the sailors were safer with the Iranians than with the initial rescuers. Overall a puzzling situation.
Who was the guy? That is my question. (Was my question) Did they follow the boat back to an Iraqi port run by the IRG? It looked like Iraqis but its damned easy to throw a rag on your head.
Again, like I said, the Iraqi actions post explosions points to them hard core. Preventing towing of the ships and essentially taking the crews hostage reduces my estimation that this could be another false flag like Tonkin to close to 0%.
I think you mean... Iran. Look, nobody pulls an explosive, dud or otherwise, off a ships hull unless they KNOW the procedure. Otherwise that guy, the crew and the small boat they came in on are likely to be fish food.
I’m all for doing this by the numbers and going slow on this. No sense rushing into anything. So we’re not that far apart. But what I am saying is that the people who shot up or mined that tanker are the same people who pulled that explosive off like they were brushing a bug off their sleeve. Nobody else would have taken that risk.
