Hispanics stick with Trump despite tough border stance
Washington Examiner ^ | June 14,20019 | by David M. Drucker

President Trump is poised to launch his 2020 reelection as popular with Hispanic voters as other Republicans, bucking predictions that provocative nationalist rhetoric and hard-line border policies would crater his support with this critical bloc.

When Trump, four years ago Saturday, descended the escalator to the lobby of his iconic New York skyscraper and announced his first campaign, he riffed that Mexicans "with lots of problems," including rapists, were crossing the southern border. Many Republicans, establishment and otherwise, were mortified. They fretted that nominating Trump, never mind electing him, would permanently doom the GOP with Hispanics.

It hasn’t worked out that way. Available polling consistently shows Hispanic support for the president at around 30% — about the same as it has been for many Republican politicians post-George W. Bush and pre-Trump. Indeed, Some party insiders focused on improving Hispanic support for the GOP now contend that he has room to grow with this cohort in next election.

I found out to my surprise while ringing door bells for Trump in SW OH during summer of 2016, that Hispanics that are here legally and went thru the citizenship process and work hard like the rest of us truly resent illegal immigrants & the politicians that support them. They would call them Line Cutters.

Yes, but down here in the southern states like Texas, Illegals far outnumber Legals.

Good point. Look at it this way, someone legally emigrates here from some crap hole, builds a life for their family through work and their family becomes educated and moves on up...kind of the American dream. Then along comes some invaders who jump the lines, demand benefits, and then push his family out of the way. Lastly, they have worked hard to throw off the culture they left, now, they are ostracized because everyone lumps them into the mix of those they care to not be associated with.

This is easy. Signs can be made.

“Are you a legal citizen and happen to be Hispanic? Vote Trump and keep your jobs and paychecks, like the rest of America!”

“Nobody likes line cutters.”

Next time you’re at an amusement park in line, ask “Who supports amnesty for immigrants?”

Then go cut in front of the raised hand nearest to the front of the line, smiling broadly.

Puts the more aware ones in a real quandary — they want to publicly show their SJW support for amnesty, but know what you’re up to. LOL!

Hispanic CITIZENS have always wanted the borders secured and the law enforced.

Bush League Republicans have been lying to US for decades that we had to pander with amnesty.

Flimsey Grahamnesty needs to be the first to go.

Legal Hispanics don't like Illegal Hispanics.
It's hard to make the Racism label stick in this case.

Yes RIGHT! I’m one of those “hispanics.” Although my heritage is Mexican I’m 100% red-blooded USA AMERICAN. This pervasive, liberal thought that all hispanics and all blacks think alike is absolutely INSULTING and racist.

My read on this:

1) Many Hispanics fled drug violence in Mexico and Central America, and absolutely do NOT want those people to follow them here.

2) They came to get jobs, and Trump’s economic policies will provide them the best opportunities.

3) Democrat pandering to Black voters (including the possibility of taxing Hispanics more to pay reparations) is not playing well.

4) Having to listen to him in Spanish many more hours a week than whites, they realize that Jorge Ramos is an even bigger idiot than we do.

Democrats ignore the fact that most Hispanics are family-oriented Christians.

Trump should get Candace Owens to replace Sara Sanders and embrace #Blexit with both arms.

Make it a cornerstone of his campaign. Target that demographic with constant reminders how the Democrats have ruined families and made fathers irrelevant.

This not only is correct, but it resonates with ALL demographics - not just blacks - who have been desperately trying to say the same things about government destroying families.

Why would Americans who happen to be Hispanic want illegals driving down wages and bringing third world diseases here? They wouldn’t...

The Irish don’t want illegals here either - blacks feel the same.

The only people who want illegals breaking into our country are white liberal elites...

I think it is a wonderful idea and I hope Trump or one of his advisors has thought of this or will see it here.

I am convinced the FR site is monitored by the White House.

Call me a worry troll, but I continue to worry about his demographic. I think the number is insane, like 800,000 new illegal Mexicans coming into and setline in Texas each year. How long will it take for them to turn the state blue?

No one dislikes illegal immigration more than those who did it the right way

That can be generational. I'm two generations removed from the "old country" … Grandpa was very proud of his (naturalized) citizenship, and of his service in the US Navy. Illegal aliens are, in my view, defecating on his memory … as are the politicians who enable them.
