California moves to let felons serve on juries
Orange County Register ^ | 6/13/19 | JOHN PHILLIPS

Posted on 06/13/2019 9:37:45 PM PDT by LibWhacker

The state of California has made no secret that it wants to let as many people out of prison as possible.

From the early release of inmates through AB 109, to filling parole boards with felon friendly commissioners, to decriminalizing a litany of felonies and drug offenses with Props 47 and 57, Sacramento lawmakers are bending over backwards to dramatically reduce the state’s inmate population.

Despite all of these efforts, the number of inmates hasn’t dropped dramatically enough to satisfy the state’s ruling Democrats, so they’re kicking tires on a new approach — rigging the jury system so no one gets convicted in the first place.

This most recent push is Senate Bill 310, authored by state Sen. Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley, and would allow Californians who have prior felony convictions to serve on juries.

In a press release promoting the proposal, Skinner wrote, “SB310 will help ensure that California juries represent a fair cross-section of our communities…People with felony records have the right to vote in California. There is no legitimate reason why they should be barred from serving on a jury.”

Currently, felons are prevented from serving on juries because of their obvious and inherent bias against prosecutors and law enforcement.

If you honestly believe that jurors in California who’ve served time won’t be more lenient towards accused criminals, I’ve got a bullet train to sell you.

People who have a family member in law enforcement are excused from jury duty all the time because of the possibility of bias, even unconscious bias.

How can someone who’s served time be considered free of bias?

That’s like having crazy cat ladies vote on how many cats a person should own.

It should be noted that SB310 makes no distinction between violent and non-violent offenders, and even allows convicted felons...

If that junta will take these American Chavistas out for one last helicopter ride, then bring on the junta.

They will probably let them serve while still in jail too. After all, they have ALL that free time.

I have a bit of a different take on this, I say Go Ahead.

We seem to have No Problem letting Corrupt Lawless Judges, Prosecutors and Police Officers with a Documented History of LYING and Criminal Behavior not only Testifying but Prosecuting and Adjudicating cases, so why not add a few more Felons??

Why not just either dictates that black and Hispanic folks cannot be charged with any crime or just abolish the California penal code? Either way gets them where they want to be.

I was on Jury Duty in Orange County, CA.

Sitting in the Jury Room I hear an announcement, if anyone here is not a United States Citizen please report to Window A.

At least a dozen People go up to Window A.

I asked myself, (a) how did they get here in the first place, how many who weren’t U.S. Citizens didn’t go to window A and how many have no clue whether they are U.S. Citizens or not?

Let convicted felons have guns, too, per 2nd Amendment.

Yes California, allow convicted felons all their rights and turn into a hell hole. Not only should the allowed on juries, but they should be allowed to buy firearms! Let them vote! Let pedophiles operate child care centers and volunteer in schools.

(/sarcasm)

California is gone. As a lifelong, 5th generation citizen of the state, it knots my stomach to type that.

But it is a fact that cannot be ignored. I am in the process of liquidating some real estate here, and then will be leaving. Sanctuary state. Taxpayer-funded health care for adult illegal aliens. Releasing dangerous criminals onto our streets due to prison overcrowding by.... illegal alien criminals. High Sales Tax. High Fuel Tax. High Income Tax. All paid by me, a single, middle-class, law-abiding, straight Christian white guy, to support a system —and a majority population— that spits on me and all that I value and have worked for all my life. Our highways are crap. Our parks are crap. Our schools are crap. We were, when I was young, a dynamic First-World place. We are now a Second-World society led by those who would have us accelerate to Third-World as the supreme signal of virtue.

Any recommendations for a new place to call home (seriously)?

I've been thinking about leaving myself. When I was a kid, I was always "California dreamin". Now I only dream about getting away from California. I'm keeping an eye open for rural, even off-grid stuff => such as a person might find here.

Never thought I'd go full bugout mode, but boy, sometimes it really looks like that's the direction the country is going, and you better have a remote place to go if and when the time comes. But I'm too old to take all that too seriously. For now I just want to get away from the constant leftist stupidity. So I'm searching, like you, unsure where to go really.
