Former vice president Joe Biden is proposing to restore Californias now-defunct high-speed rail project just months after Gov. Gavin Newsom pulled the plug, and President Donald Trump pulled the funding.
Biden formerly championed high-speed rail with President Barack Obama as part of the 2009 stimulus package.
Joel Fox, commenting on Californias widely-read Fox & Hounds blog, noted the provision in Bidens new plan to tackle climate change

What a dumb ass. Doesn’t he know that California will already vote for him?
It is also a large land grab.
Private property owners/farmers will get screwed.
We have a group of people fighting against the high speed rail here in Texas for that reason.
The Communist Party, solving 21st century problems with 19th century solutions.
Yes, I do believe he’s stupid enough to do all of his campaigning in California and Oregon. Slow-Joe likes a friendly crowd!
Joe loves him some close-in Hillary.
Well have driverless cars within a generation. This railway will be obsolete before its even finished
What will they call it? MMRAC? Moving Mexicans Rapidly Across California?
Less than a century ago too. Then government started eating away at it, piling on taxes and regulations as they started to build highways on the taxpayer dime and giving tax breaks to truckers. Private railroads were even starting to build their own self-funded high-speed passenger trains before the new millstone of regulations killed that for them. Sad story when you look at it through the years.
“someone who is radical, but can still be elected”
Scary if that’s remotely possible.
“Doesnt he know that California will already vote for him?”
Very good point. Assuming true, he will gain no California voters and will lose votes of non-Californians.
A NEW initiative in CA to fund the boondoggle would fail 6-4.
Most of the middle-left here is sick of it.
Gore on the wrong horse again. And it allows Trump to force Dims to defend CA. Especially when combined with the illegal problem. And money/healthcare for illegals, not homeless vets and Americans.
Yep, creepy-uncle doesn’t discriminate by just going for the young ones, he wants a piece of grandma, too. That’s how creepers roll, just like Kellen Winslow.
Joe is equal-opportunity!
Did he not read the tweet it was dead?
Build it and they may not come. Have you ever rode Bart Joe ? Heck, YOU might get molested on a Bart train Joe.
I like to refer to him as Barakish, not to be confused with the word “Brackish.”
Actually, when you think of it, it is easily confused with the Kenyan usurping mulatto.
There was a lot more government involvement than many on this board give credit in the first build out of the US rail system. A few examples; The New York Central was created by the State of NY from a series of struggling Rail Roads, and given a degree of protection by the New York legislature. The Pennsylvania Rail Road was given a lot of protection from competition by the State of Pennsylvania, severely restricting the Baltimore and Ohio Rail Road from building their own links to Pittsburgh and NYC. The B&O for their part were bailed out at least once by the State of MD. Then there is the Union Pacific created by the feds for building the eastern end of the Transcontinental Rail Road, and paid in land for doing the building.
I may think passenger rail has a part to play in the future of US transportation. California High Speed Rail Authority should not though, it should be killed as a example to others planning large transportation projects. The price as first sold seems to always be low, 1/3 of actual cost seems to be on the more accurate end of these estimates. I want the promoters and managers of these projects to be told that no there is no more money, finish the project on what you have or declare bankruptcy.
I be old Shot Gun Joe would like the train run between Tijuana and all of the voting booths in Kalifornia
That’s the Dems - corrupt potential ideas and when they fail, double down on failure....
