For years Border Patrol agents have expressed concern about America's immigration policies, saying that the United States' southern border was vulnerable. They have expressed concerns about a potential terrorist using the United States-Mexico border as a means of gaining access to America to carry out a terrorist attack. And, not surprisingly, their fears have become a reality.
Border Patrol agents are extremely overwhelmed along our southern border. They are spending the majority of their time processing people instead of actually protecting our border. Up until now, we haven't really seen terrorists utilize our southern border to carry out an attack. Homeland Security Today says that's because very few Americans have successfully made it to Syria and Iraq for recruiting purposes. The FBI tends to stop them dead in their tracks.
In May, ISIS attempted to utilize typical migration routes through Central America, to the United States' southern border, to create a financial attack that was expected to ruin America's economy.

I spent a lot of years working in the Rio Grande valley selling industrial equipment. Started in the 1980’s continuing up to 2015. The local media (McAllen, Tx) ran lots of stories of OTM’s that had been caught. The BP was catching lots of middle easterners who look like Mexicans and had spent time in Mexico to learn spanish. NONE of that news ever got out of the RGV. Not reported in San Antonio, Houston or Dallas.

No never heard that. My personal connection with Gilchrist was helping him with his computer list in his home. He lives right across the I-5 from me. The Minutemen were effective in patrolling the border until Gilchrist's main lieutenant decided to start his own Minuteman org (can't remember his name). Gilchrist and his co-founder, Chris Simcox of Tombstone never copy writed or trademarked the name.
The branch off org guy wanted more physical enforcement with weapons and deadly fire, while the original Minutemen just patrolled to inform Border Patrol. While the confusion of competing orgs was diminishing the volunteers, Chris Simcox was charged and convicted with molestation of a minor. I had pulled out before that happened.
Don't know what Gilchrist is doing now. Too bad it went to crap because it was very effective and well organized and a chapter was beginning to form in Texas. You had to have a legit reference and photo ID to get a badge to go to the border.
The original Minutemen had very strict rules of conduct. They would sit in their chairs on hilltops or on top of RV's with binoculars and radios to report to Border Patrol. BP actually thanked them for making such an effort and said hundreds of illegals had been stopped when looking at those old farts on their RV's.
The faux Minuteman guy thought he was Wild Bill with his posse. There is always some ass who screws things up, not to mention Simcox being charged and convicted of child molestation.
I'd like to see such an organization formed again with known reputable people in the areas most open. They could start with a different name: Civilian Border Watch or other.

I have been in contact with Gilchrist in the last days to see what's going on with Trump's current Mexico demands, and we didn't discuss his name, but did agree he "stole" the Minuteman name for his own violent org for funding. I probably have the shithead emails somewhere in my files. He tried to recruit me and told him to kiss off. He was an opportunist. Freepmail me if you remember his name.
I left the Minuteman Project when so many were popping up with their own Minuteman names and diluting the effort, and not adhering to the original ROE's. Glad I did before co-founder Simcox of Tombstone got charged and later convicted of child molestation.
Too bad that all happened. The Minuteman Project really did make a difference in illegal crossing for a short time. As I said above, the Border Patrol respected their observation/reporting duties and thanked them.
