BEIJING - Websites of The Washington Post and the Guardian appear to now be blocked in China as the country's government further tightens its so-called "Great Firewall" censorship apparatus as it navigates a politically sensitive period.

Why did so many sell so much, to a country like that?
“China as the country’s government further tightens its so-called “Great Firewall” censorship apparatus as it navigates a politically sensitive period.”
“politically sensitive”....Granddaddy of all understated euphemisms. Quit reading right there.
Wrong flavor of communism?
Did I read somewhere recently that China was paying Washington Post to include pro China news?
WaPo just lost its main audience.
bump

Being the Stalinist Maoists the Chinese didn’t like the moderate Soviet communists whom they viewed as puny socialists. WaPo is clearly ideologically Soviet so it is understood and why do you think NYT not on list? :)
Hell, we cannot even get one wall to secure our borders.
But we have an agreement to stop all wetbacks from Mehico and SA but no mention of the Chinese, Africans or ME invaders being stopped. WTF????
Because the Chinese simply can't live without the Times' book reviews and the crossword puzzle?
I love it when globalists turn on each other.
Someone post that rat fight montage.
NYT is ideologically closer to hard-line Communism.
There are two ways of dealing with the fake, poisonous, propagandizing liberal media that the WaPo and the British Guardian represent:
1) The Totalitarian Solution: Ban it, as Xi Jinping of China is now doing; or,
2) The Freedom of the Press Solution: Continually make the public aware of the fakeness, poisonousness, etc., of the liberal media so that it will realize it’s being lied to and manipulated, which Donald Trump has been doing. The falling subscription rates and TV ratings of the U.S. liberal media attest to the growing success of this approach.
On the enemies list of the left, and a fair number of neocons, Russia is way up there, while China continues to lag at the bottom. Does anyone know whether Russians can get the Washington Post on the internet any easier than the Chinese? If so, maybe they ought to switch places on the list.
Russia has a very little list of banned websites which are mostly islamist, far-left or far-right propaganda. It is supposedly enforced by ISPs who receive the list from the feds time to time and block access for their clients but they don’t do a good job most of the time. To anyone familiar with idea of proxy-server it takes probably one minute to access any banned IP if ISP is actually blocking something. No foreign media is actually on list.
They were blocked 15 years ago too
Maybe we need to orbit some wifi routers and “tear down” China’s firewall. They might start zapping satellites, so things could get interesting.
They are just blocking WaPo and the Guardian because it is digging into market share of the People’s Daily.
In this case I think they’re smarter than us.
Wish we could do the same here.
