I live in black bear country, puny when compared to a brown bear, 45 auto isn’t enough gun for them. You could kill a bear with the 45 but the shot would need to be so precise that a 9mm would work just as well.
10mm is my woods gun and I consider it marginal, that is a 220 grain hard cast going 1200 fps. I did carry 45 super for a while, similar ballistics to 10mm but too much risk of ammo ending up in a gun set up for 45 auto.
Handling a dead baby would be the harder of the two I would think.
