Ill start with a personal experience and then try to expand into Republicans and big tech.
In the spring of 2016, Facebook came under pressure, stemming from leaks by its workers, over charges of systemic political bias. I was not especially interested: a Silicon Valley company that employs thousands of young people to make decisions that are often ideological will tilt left, and conservatives must factor that in, as theyre used to doing.
My concerns about Facebook had to do with its apparently monopolistic nature, slippery ethics and algorithmic threats to serious journalism.
Soon after, I received an email from Mark Zuckerbergs office inviting me and other conservative activists to attend a meeting with him to discuss the bias charges in an off-the-record conversation. I responded that I was not an activist but a columnist, for the Journal, and would be happy to attend in that capacity and on the record. That didnt go over too well with Mr. Zuckerbergs office! I was swiftly told that wouldnt do.

Peggy Noonan broken clock moment? Not a subscriber, so I can’t 100% confirm that Peggy got this one right.
Paywall alert.
Hard to know what she said since you have to pay to read the article
Reminder this is Free Republic
Suckerbug is such a sissie. He truly looks like an android. A little weenie armed android. I know it’s petty to resort to make fun of physical appearances but geesh. What a weirdo. With all that money you’d think you could get a total makeover.
We should put something in the title of posts linking to paywall sites so I wont waste my time. You would think I have learned about WSJ. I blame myself but feel better for venting out loud. :)
Don’t dismiss Zuckerberg. He is a serious threat as he and all of these other leftist owners of social media are systematically cutting off our ability to be heard. These clowns went to Congress years ago calling themselves public forums and sought protection against lawsuits. Now, they are no longer acting as a public forum, but as a weapon of the left and stifling our voices. They should be treated as such (legislatively).
Here’s to hoping that more conservatives can pool together to put a social media platform up that we will have our voices heard. I love Free Republic but it does not have the size of a facebook or twitter. Perhaps it can grow into one.
You are correct. I am a subscriber so I went and read it. Most of the time I skip her weekly column and go right to the comments but this week I read it. It was Peggy’s usual over the top weepy verbosity, but she got it mostly right. And for once she didn’t display her TDS.
Don’t get me wrong. He’s dangerous. The most dangerous person in the world is someone who is lacking in some areas such as looks or ridiculed for certain beliefs and then become incredibly wealthy and powerful. Then they can fulfill their revenge. But he’s still a sissie.
Peggy is a so-called conservative until she falls in love with a Marxist like Obozo and decides to support him. At best, she is an unreliable flake.
She can have a way with words. I like her description of Zuckerberg. “imperious twerp”. That should be his title from now on. The Imperious Twerp.

These same assholes told congress they wanted protections for internet content providers, spoke out against downthrottling, etc etc. as if it’s “not” fascism when “they” do it.
Have a Peggy, give a Peggy. Need a Peggy, take a Peggy.
When she recants about Trump maybe I will care what she says.
